Mindustry is one of those games that never gets old for me, mostly because I’ve been deep in the modding scene for it. It’s not just a game anymore—it’s a project. I’ve created a couple of mods that I’m really proud of, like “Fading Revelations” (a Serpulo campaign extension) and “Asthosus” (a whole new desert planet with its own tech, enemies, and campaign). Modding has kept me coming back over and over. You make something, test it, tweak it, and then test it some more. It’s addicting! I mostly play my own mods, just to see how they’re holding up and playtest new stuff. Plus, I’ve got a community of people who like to play with me, which is great for sharing ideas and just having fun. There’s always something fresh to try out or a new challenge to overcome with each session. If you’ve never played Mindustry, it’s this awesome mix of tower defense, resource management, and automation. You’ll find yourself setting up factories, building defenses, and trying to outsmart the enemy with your clever designs. But after hundreds of hours, there’s definitely a grindy part to it—waiting for resources to come in, or just watching your units slowly get built up so you can finally push into the enemy base. It’s not a huge deal, but it can feel a little repetitive at times. Even so, there’s so much depth here, especially if you love building systems, automating processes, and coming up with new strategies. Plus, the modding community is full of creativity—there’s always something new and fun to try. If you’re into modding or enjoy games that let you get lost in creating and testing, Mindustry will keep you hooked. But even if you’re just looking for a solid game to dive into, it’s totally worth checking out.

I paid for this game on steam before realizing it was free on itch.io, but even if I didn't, I'd do it again to support this game. Mindustry is an amazing game, and I think that it's one of the few games that manages to blend together so many genres and gameplay styles so well. The main point against factory-building games is "As wide as an ocean, as deep as a puddle". In that case, this game is a solo cup that goes to the abyss. At first, it doesn't seem like much, just some turrets, units, factories, and a couple other things. But then you start getting into the interactions between status effects, ammo types, groups of different units, schematics, and it becomes apparent how deep this goes. And that's not even mentioning Erekir. As the other planet that focuses more on the RTS elements, as opposed to the mainly tower defense of Serpulo, it is an EXPERIENCE. And believe me when I say, this shit is HARD. You will get beaten down again and again, have your carefully-crafted bases decimated, and have everything your attack destroyed rebuilt by the enemy by the time you get more units. At the time of writing this, version 8.0 has not come out yet, however, in the bleeding edge build on this game's Github, there is a difficulty selection. One difficulty has 2x more enemies with 1.5x more health. Now, this may get adjusted before release, but trust me, START ON NORMAL DIFFICULTY. Serpulo isn't as bad, but Erekir will beat your ass into a corpse before pissing on it in the ultimate act of hatred. Erekir doesn't hold punches. It's almost like you can see the developer spiral further down the rabbit hole of absolute developer insanity, as the further you go, the crazier everything gets, from single-shot turrets to FUCKING MASSIVE ELECTRIC CHAINGUNS THAT HAVE ALCHEMICAL SIGILS ON THEM. Erekir will throw everything it has at you. And that's why this is such a great game.

A pretty fun, more arcade and simplified factorio-like free and open source game. Get it for free from the official website. And if you end up liking it, buy to support the developer.
