Campaign mode ? No idea. Normal difficulty ? No idea. I'm not saying it's bad -- I just have no idea. Survival mode brutal difficulty ? absolute blast, pure gem, one of a kind. I'm 45 years old, I likely played 500+ games (of all kinds) in my life. I'll only tell you this : this game PERFECTLY checks my box for : base-building (heavy), combat (heavy), exploration (light), and even crafting (light). THEY ALL BLEND WELL TOGETHER. If you hesitate, stop wasting your time on reviews (like this one ? lol)... yeah, just download the demo, how about that ? EZ...
It's Actually a Shame I Didn't Discover This Game Earlier It's a really cool mix of genres, and most importantly, it's executed very well, which is quite rare. It combines Tower Defense, horde shooter, real-time strategy, and survival, and somehow makes all of them work together. As a bonus, the game looks great and runs flawlessly. I didn't have a single performance issue or stutter. The co-op mode is also very well implemented. In fact, that's exactly how I'd recommend playing it. Grab some friends for an extra +100 to the fun. Of course, the game isn't perfect. Some descriptions are simply confusing. There are also a huge number of researches, and some of them have almost no practical use or purpose. You'll also need some time to get used to the UI because, once again, the game throws a massive number of mechanics and systems at you. Overall, I definitely recommend it.
Recently finished an enjoyable three-player co-op campaign. If your RTS play-style is to "turtle" and build an impenetrable fortress while the local wildlife politely tries to eat/melt your face, you’ll feel right at home. Often the best part of building a base is the beginning when you’re planning it out, the game doubles down on this because every time you jump through a rift, you get the satisfaction of starting a fresh base from scratch. The tech tree is DEEP. The game refunds your materials when you deconstruct so you’re encouraged to experiment and optimise. Your gear and ultimates significantly alter how you explore and fight, so absolutely spend time experimenting. The UI is OK and there is decent quality of life features like being able to "paint" your cursor over structures to mass-repair/sell/upgrade makes base management and complete base redesign a breeze. The game plays flawlessly on Linux via Proton. It’s a smooth, "just works" experience. At least with a 7800X3D and an RTX 5080. If the default camera feels a bit claustrophobic, you can open the console (tilde key ~) and enter ‘camera_enable_zoom 1’. This lets you scroll out much further to admire your glorious base – though I feel like it does make the combat a bit easier so your mileage may vary here. The campaign took us about 30 hours on Normal difficulty. The story is a bit generic (Avatar but with a few spreadsheets and heavy weaponry) but it does exactly what it needs to do: give you an excuse to go somewhere and build another base in a new biome. If you love base building, and watching your defensive lines hold against the tide, this is an easy 8 of of 10 recommendation.
