I've played all the Monument Valley games - I love the aesthetics, and you can trace the personal growth of the games creators through the changes in narrative structure over the course of the games. But this is, in my opinion, the weakest of the three from a game design point of view; it lacks the tight narrative of the first and second titles and, while this serves the themes, it the slightly meandering second half lacked really brain stretching puzzles. Buy on discount and hope that MV4 returns to the tighter mechanical focus of previous years.
Nice little puzzle game with up to 3 characters in Escher-like environments with low use on resources. Next levels introduce new puzzle elements bringing new mechanics. Learn how to use the new puzzle elements. Using the puzzle elements, the perspective and the twisting paths changes.
Retaining all the artistic beauty and relaxing charm of the previous two games in the series. The challenges seems to be the easiest one in the trilogy. Soothing soundtrack still my favorite thing, New sailing mechanic is nice as well. Perfect for anyone seeking peaceful and beautiful escape.
Compared to the first two games, as for me monument valley 3 isn’t really a proper sequel but more a legacy follow-up. Puzzles aren’t as good, it still banks on 2D and 3D perspective tricks with barely any fresh ideas. That said, the big map art looks fantastic, n I’m totally fine buying it just for nostalgia’s sake.
I thought I was finishing a puzzle game. I wasn’t. I was finishing a story that didn’t want to end. Monument Valley 3 expands in a quiet, almost generous way. After what feels like a natural conclusion, it opens again — not with hidden levels for difficulty’s sake, but with memories scattered among villagers. Small interactions. Optional fragments. Human moments. Instead of rewarding speed or completion, it rewards attention. The memories mechanic transforms the experience. The world doesn’t shrink after the credits — it deepens. It asks you to walk back through spaces not to solve, but to notice. To collect pieces of people. To understand the emotional architecture behind the geometric one. Mechanically, the puzzles remain elegant — perspective shifts, layered pathways, spatial illusions. But what stands out here isn’t challenge. It’s restraint. The game trusts silence. It trusts the player to slow down. And when a puzzle game makes you feel like you’re preserving stories rather than solving obstacles — that’s design maturity. I played slowly. I collected every memory. I stayed longer than necessary. And that felt intentional. — Played slowly. Written honestly.
