this game rocks. this game feels like it came straight out of a cartoon. it's some weird kind of anti-roguelike. the game doesn't tell you what anything does half the time and i think that's hilarious. more tofu? more pitiful? fuck yeah give me that shit. don't take life too seriously just game dude fuck yeah hell yeah oh yeah

I'm writing this review because I feel like I have to give my take on a lot of the numerous reviews I've seen both positive and (in my opinion) unfairly negative. I adore what Morsels has to offer and really beg the devs to defend the choice to be obtuse with how the game is, because for me I really love the feeling of discovery I have clearing through or dying each run. Learning to strategize and plan how to use your resources on each level whether its those star thingies you need to save for NPC encounters in between levels, choosing if going into a certain mouse-hole is worth it, or switching between morsels depending on traversal, combat, or so they don't evolve too quickly. The art and music are stellar and for me the clutter doesn't bother me. It feels like someone grew up on nothing but 32 bit era videogames and Robert Crumb and it oozes so much charm. I will admit the game has this weird thing where levels are where the real difficulty lies and bosses in comparison are super easy. (I haven't died to one boss yet, but numerous unique "normal" enemies have had their way with me in ways you couldn't imagine. So while difficulty is fine maybe bosses need a re-work or more forms to work with. Especially on harder difficulties. (Currently on Nightmare 3 but haven't played much of it yet so I can't know for sure yet.) If you were to ask me the game is fine the way it is 110% and it mostly just needs bug fixes from what others have said and a fix for the occasional frame drop. Which is what I mostly experience. I only half agree with the comments on the lack of content because I feel like I haven't even discovered half of the optional stuff. Which excites me because the secret level I experienced was really fun. (The one inspired by Frogger) But I definitely would love more content for this game regardless I just don't know if that want comes from an actual LACK of content. And while yes there are only 14 morsels (And 2 can't be acquired normally like the other 12) They behave very differently and have their own skill ceilings or lack there of. I feel like people desire more power ups that affect the behavior of their abilities (which I can get more behind) Though I wouldn't mind more Morsels down the road if they are coming. I also love the lack of numerous things carrying over to make the game easier the next run. It's a trend I kind of hate and defeats the roguelike experience and reason for permadeath in these games. The only thing that's supposed to carry over is your game knowledge and skill when it comes to being capable of beating the game. (Which I understand isn't fun for some especially when combined with the cryptic-ness of the game, but I feel like it is what helps it stand out) This game gives me a sense of wonder and mystery very few roguelikes do, like Spelunky Classic (The Freeware one) and Towerclimb. So difficulty or having to experiment or figure things out isn't an issue for me, and I hope more and more people feel the same way if they give this game a try. And I'd like to say again please just add fixes and tweak the game where it needs to, but I promise you this game isn't as difficult to pick up as others are making it out to be. It's just asking for a bit more of your time to learn certain things than other games would. Which isn't a crime. I don't usually write reviews because I feel like the fact I bought the game and continue to play it is proof enough I like the game, but I just really want the devs to know in this case I really am having a fun time with it. And I enjoy it for what it is and it would be a shame if it changed too much from what made it special. Sure the game feels bare-bones in some aspects at times, but for the price and the quality that is here. I feel like I got my money's worth. It isn't for everybody, but its for me. Edit: Also if you ever release this on GOG I'd be down to buy it again just to have it DRM-free. That's how much I like this game. Edit Edit: Also let us have the option to take off the eyepatch Mouse wears on the higher difficulties. He's cuter without it.

Despite what other ppl say, the fact that this game doesn't give you much info on what's happening is very refreshing!! Reminds me of being a kid, getting a new game, not reading a single thing about it and learning what does what as i played. While the game isn't without its flaws, its definitely something special and unique!! Pro: -Incredible art and music/sound effects -Lovable lil creatures and some funny dialogue -Chaos but in a good way -Controls pretty well and feels great when on a good run -Active dev -Never played anything like it so extra bonus points for that Cons: -Would like more of a story/narrative but it doesn't need it to be fun -No keyboard support or key bindings -When too much is happening on screen it's hard to tell what's damaging you sometimes (rare) The dev seems responsive/receptive to the criticism of the game and is gonna continue updating it so its only gonna get better from here. I would HIGHLY recommend if you have patience to learn, love the art style, and want something you can pick up for a few mins to attempt a few runs.

At first glance, Morsels feels like chaos in motion. Most players — myself included — open the game thinking it’s too confusing, too messy, almost intentionally unclear. But that’s exactly where its magic sneaks in. Once you settle into its rhythm, Morsels delivers something rare: the feeling of playing games as a kid, when you didn’t fully understand the rules but you kept exploring anyway. You try, you fail, you poke at its weird corners, and somehow the confusion becomes part of the fun. It’s a messy little world, but it captures that pure childhood sensation of curiosity — where every attempt feels like discovery, not frustration. Morsels doesn’t explain itself, and in a strange way, that’s what makes it so charming.

I had this game on my wish list for a year, and I discovered that it was coming out today, this Saturday. Honestly, I was expecting a pretty simple game, but I was wrong. It’s an absolute banger. The graphics and the soundtracks are amazing, the characters are really fun to play, and the worldbuilding is fantastic. I know I still have a lot to discover since I’m playing it blind, but from what I’ve seen so far it’s easily a 9 out of 10.
