After beating Bit Dungeon 1 I thought I would give the second game a try. This game evolves upon the first game in major ways. It now expands into a giant overworld structure where dungeons are placed inside a larger explorable map instead of one continuous linear dungeon. Bit Dungeon 2 adds more weapon variety, special attacks, and build identity based on stats and weapon type. The second game also requires you to use a lot more memory to remember where you have been and where you still need to explore. However, the combat can feel very shallow in practice. I used a sword and shield build and was able to beat every boss by just bum rushing and spamming attacks while standing still, which made most encounters feel less strategic than they should be. Bit Dungeon 2 feels like a much bigger and more ambitious version of the first game, moving from a simple linear dungeon crawler into a full overworld action RPG with deeper combat, more build variety, and a longer, more punishing structure, but it does not always fully deliver on that depth in actual gameplay.

If you're looking for a top-down adventure that heavily channels classic Legend of Zelda but throws in endless replayability, bit Dungeon II absolutely nails the assignment. It’s a fast, fluid romp that perfectly balances nostalgia with deep customization. Gameplay & Progression The Zelda Vibe: The gameplay loop constantly keeps you moving forward, and the 8-bit/SNES era graphics hit that perfect sweet spot of retro charm without making the combat feel clunky. Customization: There is a surprisingly deep pool of weapons, armor, and gear to choose from. You aren't just stuck with a sword and shield; you can genuinely tailor your build to exactly how you want to play. Scaling Challenge: The difficulty ramps up dynamically alongside your level and experience. It never stops being challenging, which keeps the runs engaging instead of turning them into a mindless grind. Endless Replayability: The whole game is structured around running through it multiple times. The loop is so tight that you can essentially play this forever. Steam Deck Experience The Perfect Handheld Companion: This game has immediately earned a permanent spot on my Steam Deck. It is the ultimate "quick Zelda fix" that I can just pull out, clear a few rooms, and put away whenever I have some downtime. Final Thoughts This was actually my first experience with the franchise, and it hooked me enough that I'm immediately wishlisting bit Dungeon and bit Dungeon III to pick up in the future. If you want a challenging, fluid, and endlessly replayable retro adventure for your Deck, grab this one.

Review after 100%: 4h to play & perfect Rating:⭐⭐⭐3/6 A fast paced, action, roguelike, that is quick to learn and understand with simplistic combat, straight forward mechanics, many different weapons, gear, loot, and mob variety. I completed this game on my forth attempt with the first 3 just learning the ropes and making silly mistakes. It is linear, has a repetitive soundtrack (though it isn't all that bad), insanely easy and incredibly short for a roguelike. All the achievements are simply tied to beating a normal run. BUT would I recommend it? well... If on sale. I can't recommend paying full price. It is however a good time waster & introduction to rogelikes if you've never played one.

Enjoyable, but it only lasted 6 hours or so for me :/ I did 2 playthroughs to completion, so keep that in mind for these titles.

I remember playing the original game on some flash game site years ago, so when I saw it had a sequel I wanted to try it. It a fun cheap action roguelike.
