The combat is adequately tough, and with the right tactics and a little luck I never lost a fight. Of course you will loose sailors from time to time, but that's part of the life of a whaling seaman. The quests are fun and so is the role play, although I will admit that sometimes it feels a little too tough, but that is usually because you are trying to fight whales that are too bad-ass for you still, go find some Narwhales. Of course the best part of the game is the Sea Shanties!!! I want more Sea Shanties. Play them more often.
I'm giving the game a thumbs up because of the art style, strategy, and the amount of hours of entertainment it gave me. But... this game gets repetitive quickly. - especially for people like me who want all of the achievements. The 50 year challenge is basically 1. wait for whales 2. fight them with your captain, get points 3. dump the oil, get the blubber for points, then repeat for FIFTY YEARS I don't know if I could possibly ever achieve this unless i just let the game run afk and check back in when I need more points. I have two achievements to go, I wish the last two could be more interesting.
An absolute must play if you're into the whaling time period. A fun, yet fairly difficult game, about managing your crew as you grow a whaling ship to conquer Moby ♥♥♥♥. The combat has a high-ish difficulty floor, as the player has to become very used to having a very low action economy compared to their enemies. The nice artstyle and shanties in the background make for a very fun experience. The game plays like map and resource section of Mount and Blade, so incredibly fun if you are into that style of game. Absolutely loved it
