A Janky game What I liked about the game [*] I did like the concept of the game; there aren’t many WW1 horror-styled single-player FPS shooters out there. [*] The game play was good. The game has a nice selection of WW1 weapons. The weapons in the game have a good kick to them, especially the shotgun. I like that you can also dismember enemies. The game has plenty of blood and gore. [*] The developers did a really good job designing the enemies; the enemies in Necrovision look creepy and disturbing as hell. [*] I enjoyed using the Mech suit and I also enjoyed the dragon sections. [*] The levels have plenty of secrets. Throughout the game you will come across hand-written notes left by both the allies and the central powers, which gives you more of an idea of what was going on throughout the game. [*] You can unlock extra content, like challenges as you play through the game. [*] I enjoyed the levels throughout the game, especially the WW1 sections. [*] I thought the story was alright. What I disliked or was disappointed with [*] Soundtrack wasn’t anything special. The game needed a heavy metal soundtrack, like Painkiller. [*] Bugs and glitches, throughout the game. I came across missing textures; in chapter 6 (underworld) I came across a bridge that didn’t work, but luckily there is a way to get past it. The game play can be a bit janky, like for example, being launched into the air by enemies. The game did crash once. I also had to download patch to add an FOV slider, because the default in my opinion made the game unplayable. [*] The cutscenes are a bit shit. The voice acting as well is not the best. [*] The graphics look a bit dated, even for 2009. [*] Would have liked to of seen more WW1 weapons. [*] The boss fights in the game were a bit disappointing. [*] Some of the levels in the game felt a bit empty. [*] I felt like the game had more potential. The atmosphere in the game could have done with more horror and creepy vibes, especially in the WW1 and hell sections. I just felt like the game The Darkness from 2007 nailed that WW1 horror setting more than this game. [*] For me the game did overstay its welcome a bit. Conclusion Not a bad game. Necrovision in my opinion had lot more potential. The game also needed more time in the oven. I do like the idea of the game and like I said before there aren’t many WW1 horror FPS games out there, however the ones which are out there I feel have done a better job with this idea. If you are having trouble finding games to play and you see this game on discount then I recommend you give it a try. 7/10

The amount of negative reviews that this game is getting is, to be frank, simply unpatriotic and a disservice to all prospective buyers looking for a solid cheap game to play. Now before I get into this, you can't expect it to be a Cyberpunk 2077. No doubt about it. This is a game that flew under the radar when it was released 15 years ago. HOWEVER, for less than $1 on sale when bundled with it's sequel it's one hell of a bang for your buck (literally). I can't vouch for those who are saying they can't get the game to run or that it's too filled with bugs to play. I'm on Windows 10, and aside from the game crashing at times when I alt+tab into another program, I have run into 0 issues getting the game to run or while playing. For reference I just finished chapter 6 at the time of this review. The gameplay is genuinely some of the most fun I've had when playing a FPS campaign, and I play a lot of them. The developers manage to walk a very fine line with Necrovision, blending the faster paced gameplay of run n' gun style games (i.e. Doom, Serious Sam, or perhaps most appropriately, Painkiller) with the more precise shooting required in standard FPS war games (i.e. Call of Duty or Medal of Honor). While I'm sure this line has been walked better several times since 2009, having a fast paced shooter where you can still use Iron Sights in at this point in time wasn't common. And to boot, I think it holds up phenomenally. There is a large selection of enemy types, a large selection of weaponry, and it feels like you can tackles shootouts using a combination of many different weapons (rather than being pigeonholed into using certain guns for certain enemies). Finally, it's nice to see a fast a fun paced game set in WWI. You very rarely see WWI based FPS aside from hardcore simulations due to the slow firing rate and poor war tactics (gotta love bunker warfare). This game manages to turn "WWI" into a fun experience to play through...well sorta. While it starts in WWI where you are facing the dastardly Germans, it slowly turns into a game where you will mostly be killing Zombies, Vampires, and various sorts of other demons as you traverse through not only a hellish version of pre-nazi Germany, but also through hellscapes crafted by demons for demons. One complaint I saw, that I can kind of understand is the Time to Kill certain enemies can be long. They do have weakspots, and this is something that games like Gears of War are praised for so as far as I'm concerned it's a moot point. My only real complaint is some of the levels are way too dark. If you like FPS games you will not be disappointed! For $5 dollars it's worth every penny. But I'm sure it will be on sale for under a dollar again soon. Ignore the negative reviews, and if you run into launch errors or game breaking bugs just refund it.

Buy it when on sale Why because it’s one of those game that you either hate it or love it Why then I recommend this game because there is fun to be had with an incredible amount of problems Deception of the game is accurate "battlegrounds of World War I and into a dark underworld of vampires, demons and dark magic." How do the developers pull it off? Simple by genre switching to the point of what felt they mix in other game they were developing at that point together Is it good you wonder? Hard to say just read the other review on Steam to get the idea For example, motion sickness somehow all enemies especially when the vampires show up, all run up to you and melee in all directions even the one with guns that makes your screen violently shake During mid game all enemies move faster even the big one and they all felt like a bullet sponge The list of genres change here Standard action movies where everything and everyone die as soon you meet them and there is the player character who is supposed to be the regular solider (Medal of Honor) Surviving a zombie apocalypse in a retro sci fi setting as bj blazkowicz (Wolfenstein) Vampire, ghost, Wolfenstein style monsters all run up to you for the melee attack (FPS Melee) The force of hell is here you are the chosen one, one men army your way to defeat the devil himself (Doom or Painkiller) Do the developers pull it off? Best if you make up your mind You the player collect an arsenal of weapons there is 14 I believe but after acquiring the claw and vampire weapons which there is only 4 in total all ammos for everything else don’t show up. That’s when this game turn into a boomer shooter but the devs don ‘t remove the previous weapons, and the movement had not increased as such you be stuck melee most of the time since all the enemies at that point is fast only even the big one But the melee is really just keep meshing the attack button there is combo, but its too slow to be effective since it is bases on how many you kill To make the problem worse the gun you got don’t do enough damage to kill anything in one shot without self-damage The level design as state before feeling like a mix of other game the developers were creating at the time Movement speed felt just right on early levels however as the game continues it start to scale up a lot as in one area in later level is bigger then 2 to 3 levels from early game I appreciate the developers try something new for their game but none of it felt finished like the grim darkness of WW1 with steampunk technology is gone after the vampires show up, the take cover aim, and shoot don’t work since enemies run up to you when they got a chance and the guns lack impact The vampire weapons don’t have aim down sight as such it turns into run and gun but instead of increasing the players speed the enemies speed got increased as in, they all move about the speed of Doomy guy The game at that point turn into Doom or Quake with the focus of horror There is a story and world building which is quite good, but the main character is written like Duke Nukem where he is there to shoot bad guy and shout out one liner that keeps interrupting during most of the story telling. As if the devs have this awesome idea for the world but never get developed Then genres change again you fight hundreds of demons in hell but it’s too dark to see and the enemies is too dark to see as well also they move even faster Then you get to fight the devil he is a bullet sponge with 2 attacks So yes, if you manage to read the whole thing instead of skipping this review then do think about if you want to get this game

The game is good as always, but you can't do without reservations. The publisher has done a lot of work on all fronts. I am absolutely dissatisfied with the fact that the publishing company managed to cut out the content (Corny Sounds has only recordings of replicas of the plot "Voiceovers" and nothing more. Among other things, I was annoyed by the broken Intro of the game itself, where the hell did they decide to spoilerize the entire gameplay? Among other things, plot films without sound are a solid slide show (I got angry after what I saw). Fortunately for the publisher, I was the owner of the disk version as soon as it was released in 2008, from where I downloaded all the necessary content and replaced the Intro. Dear users. If the game seemed boring or cropped to you, check the game files, maybe censorship played its part and you tried out a castrated masterpiece. (P.S. Before starting the game, check the game files in Sounds for full immersion and, if not, finish the Cut base. I also recommend replacing everything in Movies with original content.) The only thanks to the developer - it is lined with modern hardware and this is the only plus. The game is divine, I know how old it is. Everything else is publisher's stuff.

Solid bit of fun but it is certainly rough around the edges. The shooting is good and gets better. It is fun to kill enemies which is what matters. Once you get past the feeling of "What the fuck is going on" (which fades as the story starts coming together) it becomes rather enjoyable. The combo system is an interesting addition but the kill-voice for combo powers does seem odd in the first half but both aspects more interesting as you play. Solid amount of secret sections which is appreciated, with said secrets providing buffs that make themselves felt powerfully later on. The premise of a WW1 Zombie shooter is definitely unique and it steps it more as the story progress, perhaps into the absurd but I found it likeable. There's quite a bit of cheesy humor in the first half but the game does try to show the horrors of war and I feel like the balancing act actually works and most of the dialogue encounters do feel good. Though there appears to have been some sort of language barrier and if you pay attention, some dialogue does feel translated to an extent but its still solidly in the "good to good enough" range. The voice acting is also good, not excellent but good. The music is lacking in my opinion. The first half feels a lot like CoD zombies but does add its own twist of bizarre...everything. Having completed the game, I do want to add on and say that the second half steps up the game quite a lot, I don't want to spoil it but the gameplay gets way better and the story starts pulling itself together in a way that actually gives it a compelling narrative which was quite the surprise. The ending is pretty good, I'd say very good actually, though the last levels can be tiring due to too many enemies, it fits the narrative of it however and makes getting past the challenges posed better. The many boss fights across the levels get a bit samey but do provide a challenge and the final boss succeeds in giving of a feeling of desperation as you start running out of things to throw at it before the end. Something should also be said about the overall experience, I had no crashes, performance was stable even on a modern machine without needing any outside fixes, graphics hold up pretty well, the level design is also solid and remains so across the experience. The ability to save whenever (outside of cinematics) is also very appreciated, so is being able to load autosaves from previous levels at any time. I'm genuinely pleasantly surprised by the game in general. Overall, I would give it a solid 7.5 out of 10. Solid gameplay, good amount of content for a shooter, a story that starts to get better the more you play and a cheap price make it worth a try.
