Unique movement/combat mechanics make this somewhat-generic spacepunk-style shooter...unique. It's a straightforward story, and very much on the rails -- so much so that you'll get stuck on the geometry. The real fun is in the hyperviolent, over-the-top combat -- where you lasso & punt your enemies by the drove, while juggling weapon attacks & environmental hazards for the most creative kills. I initially had no interest in the game. The foul-mouthed anti-heroes & gimmicky action honestly didn't appeal to me, until they added the DLC which brings back the Duke.... That's right. The King is back, baby -- A-Number One. Duke Nukem replaces the game's milquetoast protagonist with the machismo muscle needed to bring the noise to these weirdo space ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.... Why? "Because they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ with (him)," that's why. It's the closest we've got to Duke5, so load in.
Short and sweet campaign, best 5 bucks I've spent this summer sale. Gameplay is smooth, Still feels fresh and satisfying with the use of the leash and gravity kick. This game rewards creativity and player expression more than other current generation games. This game does have its jankyness from its aged movement controls such as one button to sprint/slide and vault. Gunplay is good, with a variety of guns and enemy types. I feel that the campaign keeps it fresh with new gimmicks and entertaining set pieces. Get this game a sequel please. Rate 7.5/10 solid gameplay. Visuals held up. Game runs smooth. Lore is hinted and digestible. Me like shoot guns Didn't get a chance to try multiplayer tho.
Was fun to replay this for the first time in 14 years, a classic late 2000s style romp through arcade-y shooting galleries. Ran flawlessly well over 600FPS on max settings. Only blemish is the game bugged out in the final QTE against the boss, and Serrano was floating eternally in the air, then the game kept crashing during the final escape before the ending, no idea wtf is wrong with the game there. played this for the first time back in 2011, and then recently bought it on steam and re-played it, made me realise how modern games have lost the most basic element in the pursuit of graphics and moneymunching process, which is them being FUN.. and this game is absolute fun from the beginning to the end.. likeable characters, over the top action, nice gunplay with cool tricks and a passable story.. definitely recommended.. a solid 9 out of 10 for me..
