While not the typical Need For Speed (most definitely a Burnout game with licensed cars), it is still worth playing. No, it has absolutely NOTHING to do with the original NFS Most Wanted, but don't let that take away from the things that make this game a great time killer. The car sounds are some of the best I've ever heard in a racing game. The handling is just the right amount of weighty yet arcade-y to make it fun to play even with a keyboard. All in all, this game gets waaayy too much hate for what it is, and shouldn't be so slept-on.

Do I recommend it? "Yes*" Why the asterisk? Because, while this is indeed a fine Need For Speed game on it's own merit, being a "Most Wanted" remake comes with certain expectations. As soon as you tack on the fact that this is a remake of quite possibly the most beloved entry in the Need For Speed game series, people expect that some semblance of the game it's a remake of is going to be seen; This can be anything from a similar story line, car acquisition methods, game mechanics, etc. That said, virtually NONE of the original game is seen in the remake. Everything, from the story to the game mechanics, has been completely gutted. There is no grand "burning your way up the blacklist to face off with #1", there is no "pinkslip" mechanic, there is no earning money at races to purchase upgrades for your car, there is no car customization in general! With all that in mind, how God's name is this a "Most Wanted" remake? It shares zero DNA with the game it's a remake of, and thereby the barometer it's naturally going to be judged by. How does it actually play? Like most every other Need For Speed entry, it's a arcade-y racing experience with fantastical aspects that keep it interesting. In the game's world there exists a number of "jack ports" that you can drive to on the map, and by pressing the interaction button you hop into a car that's just sitting there. There's no "unlocking" needed for any of these cars, and there is an impressive range of them. On top of that, you have a "blacklist" in the (most vague sense) of cars that you can race against once you raise your notoriety high enough to steal their car, but don't expect anything beyond a surface level intro video for each car with zero individuality. As far as upgrading any of these rides, there's a standardized list that is applied across every single car. Yes, every car has the same upgrades available. You unlock them for each car by participating in races and achieving high scores in them. That said, the difficulty for any of these races varies WILDLY, and any attempt to go by the marked difficulty level in-game would be in vain. In terms of customization, you just flat out can't. Finally, as for the story, we get a very shallow intro sequence that tells us we need to work our way up the blacklist in the city to become the most wanted. Beyond that, there's no racers you're tracking down, no videos, no plot, and every rival you burn is a faceless blob with no name. Why do I still recommend it? As I mentioned in my first section, this is a FINE game...on it's own. It's a decent entry in the game franchise, and it's main fault is that it's always and forever going to be compared to something it obviously will never live up to because of it's name. It has loads of cars, it has a decent enough gameplay loop, good graphics, and this in my opinion means meets expectations for a NFS game. However, is it truly a remake of possibly the most beloved NFS of the era that it was always be judged against? No, no it is not.

It's not NFSMW 2005, it's a different game entirely. but it was groundbreaking at the time and still my favorite need for speed game to this day

This game shouldn't be named Need For Speed Most Wanted because it's not, i love this game but it's not Most Wanted, the title is misleading it's more a Need For Speed Burnout, i never actually understood why they named it Most Wanted, for new people reading this review, it is not Most Wanted, it's Need For Speed with an addition of Burnout to it, which i really love personally, but naming it Most Wanted is silly.

TL;DR ~ Buy this if you want a burnout paradise game with licenced cars. Don't buy this if you want something anywhere remotely close to MW05 or any other nfs game. And please, DON'T BUY THIS IF IT ISN'T ON SALE. When it's on a deep sale it's a worthwhile buy if you wanna thrash some early 2010s cars around. The progression (if you can even call it that) is you find a car and it's just yours now. And it is VERY easy to find even those rare exotics so definitely skip this if that's what you want. The reason I wouldn't recommend this for nfs fans is that there's so many other NFS games that are better than this, have similar performance to this, are just as nostalgic and actually have game progression. This isn't a "need for speed" game and it definitely doesn't deserve the title "Most Wanted" That major pain-point aside, it doesn't look atrocious for its age and it definitely runs well for us potato PC brethren. The physics are a bit...weird but hey it works for thrashing cars around a samey looking map. Cops are quite stupid but considering high intensity hot pursuits aren't the reason you play THIS game I can let it slide. Play rivals if you want competent cops. (rip online for that game) and speaking of - Online isn't really anything to speak on, I mean this game is 13 years old now. Car selection is decent, don't expect any underappreciated 2000s gems or anything. In conclusion If you don't really care about being a NFS purist (like most people tbh) this is basically just burnout paradise in a slutty dress and for you (meaning most people), you'll 100% enjoy it for a little while at least.
