ON SALE I would recommend this game (I expect more for a $20 game) There was a lot of potential here, about 5 hours long but had the depth of a cardboard cut-out. + Art + H-scenes (not animated, but has cut-ins) + Each costume has it's own pixel art - Very basic combat (but was also very fast) - Forgettable story - Some bugs with tile sets and background music

Just beat the game. All in all, it was fun enough, buuuut.... not enough footplay stuff. Was very sad about that, especially after a certain character talked about giving Sary a foot massage. :(

Niplheim’s Hunter – Branded Azel, developed by Black Train and published by Kagura Games, is an adult-oriented action RPG that blends traditional monster-hunting mechanics with character-driven storytelling and a light crafting system. Set in the frontier region of Niplheim, the game follows Azel, a young huntress who bears a mysterious brand inflicted by a powerful beast. Her journey becomes one of survival, revenge, and self-discovery as she navigates dangerous wildernesses, hunts monstrous creatures, and seeks to unravel the secret behind her curse. What begins as a simple tale of vengeance slowly unfolds into a story about resilience and identity, wrapped in a gameplay structure that combines exploration, combat, and collection with sensual undertones characteristic of Kagura’s catalogue. The presentation immediately distinguishes Niplheim’s Hunter from many of its contemporaries. Its vibrant pixel art is cleanly animated, and its character illustrations—especially during story and event sequences—are polished and expressive. The side-view combat system gives the game a slightly more dynamic feel than typical top-down RPG Maker titles. Azel’s animations, enemy designs, and attack effects are smooth, and the transitions between combat and exploration feel natural and well-paced. The world of Niplheim, though small in scope, is beautifully detailed in its simplicity. From lush forests and caves to ruined villages, each area is drawn with an appealing level of color and atmosphere. The soundtrack supports this aesthetic with relaxing themes during exploration and energetic compositions during battle, grounding the game’s pacing with a sense of rhythm and tone that keeps it engaging despite its compact scale. Gameplay revolves around a simple but satisfying loop: hunt monsters, gather resources, craft better equipment, and take on progressively stronger enemies. The game’s structure is mission-based, with quests given by the Hunter’s Guild serving as the central progression path. Combat is turn-based and fairly accessible, focusing more on strategy and preparation than on difficulty or grind. Azel’s progression depends on materials harvested from slain monsters, which can be used to forge weapons, armor, and accessories. Crafting plays an important role not only in upgrading her abilities but also in customizing her appearance through unlockable outfits and gear. The game’s resource management system, while not deep, adds a sense of continuity and reward for players who enjoy collecting and building. This gameplay loop encourages exploration without overwhelming the player with systems, keeping things focused and rewarding within its limited but well-defined parameters. Azel herself is the heart of the experience. She’s a capable and confident protagonist whose journey is as much about reclaiming her strength as it is about survival. The brand she carries symbolizes both physical power and personal struggle, and her interactions with the supporting cast reveal a blend of humor, determination, and vulnerability that makes her compelling. The writing, while not elaborate, manages to give the world a sense of personality. The townsfolk, guild members, and even minor NPCs contribute flavor and charm, adding levity to the darker themes. Dialogue is localized with care, capturing both the emotional tone and the lighthearted moments without losing nuance or awkward phrasing. Kagura Games’ translation is notably smooth compared to earlier adult localizations, and it helps the game feel more professional and immersive. The adult elements, while central to the game’s identity, are integrated in a way that complements rather than overpowers the experience. The erotic scenes are tied to story progression and character development rather than being tacked on as random fanservice. These moments explore Azel’s emotional and physical transformation while maintaining the tone established by the narrative. The artwork during these scenes is highly detailed and well-illustrated, a signature strength of Black Train’s design team. The mature themes do, however, limit the game’s audience—those uninterested in adult content may find the focus distracting, while fans of the genre will appreciate the balance between gameplay and sensual storytelling. Where Niplheim’s Hunter begins to show its limits is in its simplicity. While the combat and crafting systems are functional, they lack complexity and can feel repetitive after extended play. The game’s short length—averaging around six to eight hours for full completion—means it ends before its systems can evolve into something deeper. The limited variety of monsters and quests contributes to a sense of repetition, particularly in the later stages. However, this brevity also works in its favor for players seeking a focused, self-contained experience without excessive grinding. Its accessibility and pacing make it easy to pick up and complete without the time investment typical of larger RPGs. Despite these constraints, the game’s charm and craftsmanship shine through. It demonstrates a thoughtful balance between style and substance, ensuring that every part of its design serves its atmosphere. The combination of sleek visuals, satisfying progression, and mature storytelling creates an experience that feels polished and cohesive. While it may not reach the complexity of full-scale RPGs or the narrative depth of story-driven visual novels, it succeeds at delivering exactly what it intends: an intimate, well-crafted, and aesthetically pleasing adventure that respects the player’s time and attention. Niplheim’s Hunter – Branded Azel is ultimately a compact yet satisfying RPG experience built around strong art direction, engaging presentation, and a simple but addictive gameplay loop. It captures the spirit of monster-hunting adventure with an adult twist, providing both entertainment and atmosphere in a concise package. For fans of Kagura’s catalog or those seeking a short, polished RPG with beautiful art and accessible mechanics, it delivers on its promises. It is not a sprawling epic, but a focused, well-realized story that blends sensuality and strength, and it succeeds in offering a distinct identity within the crowded field of indie RPGs. This is a good game it has all the elements there for sure. My only issue is a niggle but for me a show stopper. It's really hard for me to get into it when all the characters are drawn like 'strawberry shortcake' or some cherub style drawing. It is an older game so it's your call. There is a good game here but also for me in particular just a buzz kill. Put on your wishlist and get it on sale.
