Pros: -Fun Metal Slug-esque shoot em up. -Side mission system is encouraged for bonus cash to purchase new weapons or upgrade your unlocked arsenal. -Despite all being royalty free to use, music is charming and energetic. -References, when used, are a nice touch, and don't hamper the story. Cons: -Main story is short and one note. -Many of the side mission boss fights become tedious due to the mob enemy spawns. -The basic ground drone is the worst enemy of the game. It is often spammed on some of the more interesting missions or fights unnecessarily, while having an attack that is in melee range and being outside your kick hitbox , and it's main attack has no audio nor visual cue . This doesn't sound like much, but it becomes very annoying during boss fights where you have to split awareness between boss attacks and these thing. -Controls are somewhat clunky for gamepad and M&K. Aiming with mouse felt egregious where I had to increase my DPI more than I usually do, while there's no option to drop through platforms with a prompt like with jump. Solid 7.5/10. It has issues, but for an indie title, it was fun, and my frustrations with the game weren't enough to make me rage quit.

Short, but fun game. Entertaining characters and a variety of cool guns to keep you occupied for the runtime. Soulful tm.

Very solid gameplay Good use of pixel art Story is simplistic, but the characters are charming and it ties the plot together well. If you're looking for a 2D platformer with guns, this is definitely a good choice to go for.

Really fun game. Like a more tactical run-n-gun. Controls are a little rough, and require some tweaking and getting used to though. Quick but intense levels with lots of replayability. Mechanically a little more complex than a classic run-n-gun. The melee and dodge roll make it more interesting when you're swarmed by enemies. Unlocking new weapons and items (mines, turrets) can drastically change how you play a level. Precision weapons do more damage from crouched position, and enemies have weak points. The controls are a little awkward. My experience is having to turn down vertical sensitivity to 30 and horizontal to 5 in order to aim without my character flipping left/right every time I touch the right stick. It still happens sometimes, and can be disorienting. Suddenly my character will turn away or point the gun straight up/down because I nudged the stick a little too much. After a while I got used to it. The visuals can also be a lot. There are many things moving on the screen and it can be hard to focus at times. This also goes away after you get used to it, but can be rough at first. Some improvements I'd like to see: - Make it so your aim is locked to either left or right, and only flips if you press a quick-turn button. - The helper-robot with the holograms is cute, but super distracting early on. It moves too much and looks just like an enemy. Give us the option to turn it off maybe? There is an option for "k9 permissions" at loadout, but it doesn't seem to do anything. - The option to turn off screen-shake, or turn it way down would be nice.

I see a bunch of complaints about the controls, and I kinda get it. People think this looks like a cute run and gun. And it is. Sort of. There's a subgenre of run and gun you might call "2d Mecha". Most notable in the series for the western audience is Cybernator for SNES, and in recent years Assault Suits Leynos 1 (Target Earth on Genesis) and 2. It's a fairly small but pretty neat subgenre with a number of games right here on Steam. If you could wrap your head around those 2d Mecha controls, you kinda know what's going on here, too. Right stick aims, left stick moves and can jump. If you don't like jumping with the stick you can press the face button instead. You've got two weapons you'll switch between and a gadget for each weapon slot as well, stuff like grenades or mines. The left trigger, when held, makes you duck. If you press a direction while ducking you'll do an invincible roll. The other fun hallmark of mecha games is they tend to deal with ammo, and that's no exception here. It's a balancing factor for each weapon, and how long a weapon takes to reload, how fast it blows through ammo, and how much damage it does all matter. While reloading you're basically doing nothing else but dodging, so an LMG seems cool on paper, but it takes a LONG time to reload. On top of this, it does another thing that's way more like a turn based strategy, in that your damage is usually affected by your movement. If you're standing you might get 100% damage, but ducking 130%; but if you're running maybe that drops to 70%, etc. All pretty clever and strategic. It's a lot of fun if you like these sorts of things, and you probably won't be thrown off by the short length. This ain't Front Mission Gun Hazard. The style is awesome, the music is good, and it's clearly a labor of love.
