I remember buying this 2nd hand for the PS2 when I was 17 years old and then being too scared to finish it (a running theme since the same thing happened with SH2) When I saw this was on Steam, I had to get it to finally beat the game that had once beaten me. So glad that I did because this was a blast to play and filled me with nostalgia for the era of PS2 games, even though I never beat ObsCure back then. I absolutely loved every second playing this and think it is such a solid and fun survival horror game. The story feels very much like a plot from a 80's/90's horror and I say that with nothing but love and respect. Well written, interesting and while a little cheesy, actually pretty creepy to think about. Don't want to put any spoilers here so wont go more in depth. The music was a huge highlight for me. Over dramatic at times but genuinely so eerie, it fit the atmosphere perfectly and I've been replaying some songs on Youtube. Absolutely loved the soundtrack and stopped a couple of times mid-game to enjoy it, providing it was actually safe to do so. The game play was great. I honestly thought the controls would feel dated at this pointed but nope. The game felt extremely smooth and responsive to play and I really enjoyed the mechanics of the game. You get five survivors with the ability to play one with either a player two friend or AI. If one dies then that character is permanently dead. Granted you can load up a previous save to a point where they're alive, but you can also stick with the challenge of trying to keep them all alive the legit way. It genuinely adds to the pressure of the game and fear when you're mid fight and you hear the pained breaths of one of the characters, the telling sign they're a hit from death. The game includes resource management at fitting levels for the difficulty you choose, and no autosaves. Play easy? You'd have to aim your gun to the sky to take dozens of pot shots at the stars to run out. Also has plenty of saves and has so many heals. Normal has a little less ammo than easy but honestly I never really felt like I was at risk at running out and I killed everything. Just like ammo, also had a few less save discs to be found and I still finished with a lot of left over heals. Hard mode fits it name in genuinely presenting a difficult challenge. You cannot kill everything with your guns and so you either have to try and be good at melee to clear enemies out since heals are much more limited, or learn which enemies you can run for to save ammo. I worried for the first 2/3's of the game I was about to run out or ammo, save discs and heals. Characters are pretty good and they also all have a special ability and a passive ability. They also have things like different running speeds, different reload times etc. Some ports that come to steam at are garbage but ObsCure seems to be one of the better ones. I had one crash but I think that was my PC having a hiccup and not liking the extensive amount I was tabbing out at that moment. Never crashed again and I continue tabbing out a bunch to do other things. Loved this game to pieces and it'll now join my list of games to replay at least once a year.

This game was ahead of its time. The gameplay still feels great even in 2025. I felt something bizarre inside me its gave me some wave of nostalgia, like it brought me back to my childhood. Truly enjoyable, and I’d rather play something like this than most new games these days. Not many games today can give you such a great experience. Thanks for developing this game and for keeping it available in the store!
