As someone who played the demo, this game is exactly what I expected and I still love it. Due to the mixed reviews, I would like to take this time to give some tips/tricks and game details that can make or break your experience Here are my caveats for my fellow cozy gamers: - there are a couple of settings I find important to change from the beginning: day length -> crank that ♥♥♥♥ up to max; auto turn vehicle lights on -> off; keep in mind there are still some bugs in this game, so both of these settings are currently resetting each time I load up the game and will need to be reset each time as of my writing this review; this takes only like 2 seconds to do each time tho - there are currently no npcs or anything which I love bc it's just me exploring the world, but this bugs some people - make sure to collect all of the things you see (especially wood and fiber) as it is critical for a lot of crafting; as long as you are aware of this, having enough resources isn't an issue; like yea you can't just blow through all of your wood going crazy designing the top of your vehicle early on, but it's not outrageous for games of this type - first chance you get, choose the sewing machine blueprint so you can upgrade your backpack and clothing for more carry capacity and stamina; first backpack upgrade takes your capacity from 20 to 40 which is gaming changing - in order of importance for main tools I highly rec taking axe, then scythe, then pickaxe - you can take your vehicle off roading so don't be afraid to get it as close as possible to wherever you want to go - before you upgrade your backpack, don't wander too far from your vehicle or you will be frustratingly slow trying to get back to it if you are over encumbered; making frequent trips back to your vehicle is important especially early on (less so as you upgrade) - this game involves a lot of resource gathering and driving around to blue print towers which some people find repetitive/annoying, I don't but some might - the music is very enjoyable and relaxing - there are photoflash graphics and such, but you can turn off the storm flashing effects which are the only thing I have noticed so far as photosensitivity (I'm not photosensitive tho so I may have missed something) - character creation is meh and the color options are meh, but you typically only ever see your arms/hands so it doesn't really matter Those are the big points and advice I have to offer others. I for one am thoroughly enjoying myself and think the negative reviews are a bit over critical and misunderstand what this game is about. Back during next fest I played a bunch of cozy demos and took notes on positive and negatives and also wrote down prices I would be willing to pay for each based on my experience. They fixed my only real complaint of how loud the storms were by allowing for volume adjustment of the storms. As for the price I wrote down, I was cool with $20-30 which this games fits perfectly within. If I could, I would post a pic as proof, but c'est la vie. So yea, I hope this review helps you make an informed decision and you enjoy the game as much as I do :) Tldr: game plays just like the demo so don't expect something else, backpack upgrade is critical early on so get the sewing machine asap, game is super enjoyable and has even temporarily pulled me away from Pokopia

To buy or not to buy, that is the question >.< As a fellow wanderer, lover of outdoor exploration with a secret dream of RV living, I was really looking forward to this game. And while I am enjoying the experience, the hefty price tag gives me pause. If you are like me and have fond memories on the road and in the wilderness, you will find a sense of solace in this game. The gameplay loop is very basic. I personally don’t mind this too much as I find it relaxing, but I can see how some people may find it lack lustre. You drive around, collect items, craft and decorate your camper trailer. The collecting is very simple. You just collect items off the ground. The tool mechanic is a little disappointing. For example, you have an axe but you don’t cut down actual trees. You are just chopping larger logs littered about. The world seems vast enough and I am getting that outdoorsy vibe. Great visuals and audio. I love how I will be driving along and taking little pit stops to explore off beaten paths and restore parts of the habitat. Nightly you set up camp and open up your RV. You discover camp sites and light fires. I can’t help but feel like they dropped the ball here a bit. Because that’s all you do. Light a fire. You cannot interact with it. You can’t cook by the fire, roast marshmallows etc. I would have loved to see more innovation here. Particularly more camp like activities to partake in when you lodge. There is also no story or NPC’s to interact with. It’s just one big ol’ sandbox experience with minor objectives. And that’s where it loses a bit of its heart for me. I would have appreciated the opportunity to chat with locals and learn more about the world created. So why am I recommending this game? Because ultimately, I am having fun. I’m finding it all very zen like. But I will also be the first to admit that it is overpriced for the experience and that they have missed out on some opportunities to really capture the nostalgia that goes along with camping and outdoor life. It does a good job of capturing the peace and respite I feel when on the road aesthetically, windows rolled down with the wind in my hair and the sun kissing my cheeks. And I know I’ll enjoy it because I love mindless tasks. They just could have done more with it for that price. If I could go back, I would have waited for a steeper sale. Update: forgot to mention, it plays wonderfully on the deck and there is an option to extend the length of your days if you find that you are feeling a bit rushed. Also, try out all the vehicles early on to find your preference!! You cannot change it later on unfortunately.

A game that made me wish Steam had a "Meh" button. It’s cozy, sure… but cozy only gets you so far before the experience starts feeling dull. Outbound is a very slow-paced survival/crafting game focused on gathering resources and building. The core loop quickly becomes repetitive: Collect resources → Rest → Collect resources→ Rest. You can’t chop down trees — you’re stuck scavenging the same handful of locations over and over. Resources aren't very wide spread and I often found myself having to make the long trek back to a previous map to collect a few plants to progress down the research trees, or waiting on x resource to respawn because there's only a single location I've found it in. The crafting is also feels clunky. Each resource requires it's own machine, it's not long before you're building a large number of cabinets and an insane number of machines, having to craft x at one machine, move it into your or your van's inventory, move to another machine, craft y, move it to the inventory, move to the next machine, craft z, move it to your inventory, then move to another machine to combine the three and craft something else. I feel like this could have been streamlined quite a bit to cut down on the clutter and tedious action that is crafting. The maps are decently large with plenty of points of interest, but a few hours in, they all started to feel the same. What really stands out is how empty the world feels. You never come across any other people. The game explains that everyone has gone to some big “festival,” but the abandoned houses, empty structures in need of repair, and overall quiet world gives off strong post-apocalypse vibes instead. It’s a very odd creative choice that makes the game feel hollow. Combined with the complete lack of storyline or meaningful progression, there’s very little to drive you forward. You’re mostly left to just wander and build with no real purpose or hook. My biggest gripe is the price. At full cost it already feels expensive for what it delivers, and the $2.99 Day 1 DLC vehicle that looks noticeably better than the base options just rubs salt in the wound. Performance is also spotty. For its visual style, it’s surprisingly demanding on PC (heavier than some Unreal Engine 5 games) and struggles on Steam Deck, with unstable frame rates regardless of settings. As for the Devs "Refund and Remove your negative review" replies, Yes that's a crappy thing to do but they've apologized and deleted the posts. I can understand it being rough to watch something you've invested so much effort in getting mixed feedback, and their initial response was a terrible way to go about things but it appears they've acknowledged this and are taking the feedback. So props to them for that. tl;dr: It’s not a bad game — the Devs clearly put care and effort into it — but it’s not mind blowing or anything groundbreaking. The repetitive gameplay, empty world, and lack of story make it feel aimless. Strongly recommend waiting for a sale unless you’re really in the mood for an extremely chill, low-stakes survival experience.

This game is great! Not sure why people are complaining about it being dull or boring when the point is to drive around, upgrade your van and getting collectables. Pros: - Nice music - Good customisation of the home - Upgrading isn't complex like other games - Upgrades actually make a huge improvement and you can notice the difference - The gnomes and gacha pods are addicting to collect Cons: - Beginning is a little slow because you don't know what you're doing - Character models are bad and have no animations for climbing or are buggy - Battery is annoying to fill at the start until upgraded - Physics are crazy at times, the van will randomly launch - Random 2D features such as the tulips Overall I'm addicted to this game. Played it with a friend and didn't even realise it was 3am, had a lot of laughs and made great memories. We thought we had made good progress to then realise that there's four maps in total, that alone made us happy with the price and can't wait to explore more. It's your typical survival game without being chased by something eating you, the only death is if you try to jump down a cliff. I can see myself spending hours on the decorating as there's so much furniture in the game, I'm only in the first area and I can't wait to see what else I unlock

Early Review on Launch Day - 2.2 hours on record - subjected to change later... Bought it to play co-op with my husband. At first you're locked out of multiplayer until you successfully opened the first barrier to open up the map to explore, which is super short and only take 3 minutes to drive, to download a blueprint, to pick up scraps, and craft, then fix the barrier to move it, it will unlock multiplayer, so I'm just glad that it's not locked for longer time, 3 minutes is nothing. The world feels mostly empty, and it's difficult to scavenge for food, there is very little food around to forage, but luckily our hunger meter doesn't drain fast, but I feel like the world definitely need have more forageable items around, if the hunger meter is staying. We both like and enjoy driving around, finding blueprints to improve our tools, find furniture blueprints, or useful workshop like recycler, and research machine, to improve our campervan's engine to be able to climb up a steep road. There is a lot of collectibles to find, like cairns, gnomes, campfires to lit, and point of interests. I do enjoy a good collectible games. I'm not quite sure on how to recommend this game - while it is a super relaxing and cosy game, I really enjoy playing it with my husband to relax and unwind, the world is very barebone, and perhaps need more explanations around, such as, when I first got an axe, I went to try to cut down a tree, I couldn't, there's no action to do it, but I can chop a long log laying around, so I figured that maybe my axe is too weak to be able to cut down a tree, so it would be more helpful if you try to cut the tree, a pop up should come up and say "your tool is too weak to cut the tree, upgrade it to Level 2 to cut the tree", something like that, would be helpful. Since this is early gameplay review, and seeing the achievement that say to sow and harvest crops, I haven't gotten that far yet, so I can't comment on if there's farming or even fishing? since there is rivers and ponds around, I do hope that we can fish because early-game foraging for food is very scared, it's too few and too far inbetween to find a berry bush etc. I'd say that I do like this game to play with my husband and to relax on, but I don't feel like I can fully recommend it wholeheartedly. Time will tell, I need to play more to know where I stand with the game. I would say, if you enjoy cosy games with collectibles, you can try this game for up to 2 hours, but don't set a high expectations, the world is mostly empty and finding resources and food are far inbetween. I'm over the 2 hours mark now, but I don't feel like I regret buying it, I'm just hoping that it gets better when we find more blueprints, upgrades things, and find better way to get more food. If this game really does have farming (and fishing?) then it would help improve my feeling on the game, but I hope it won't be a late-game thing to do, feels like it definitely should be early game to mid game to be able to farm (and fish?) I expect to update this review when I play more of this game :-)
