As advertised, Persona 5 if it was a tactical game. The price is the worst part since Persona 5 Royal is a 100 hour game and this one could be as short as 20 hours. The plot is simple but in my opinion pretty fun, it isn't stretched out either and doesn't feel like you're just like "Uuuughhhh continue with the story already" There were a few parts here and there were I found the game difficult but mostly it's really easy. In gameplay, you're never really in any situation where you can die and that's excluding healing, speaking of healing you get it extremely early so dying isn't something to be afraid of. Gameplay is pretty fun but you don't have to use your brain alot, in fact most of the time you can go brain off and still win which for a tactical game is not great. I really enjoy the addition of quests as those are optional and require you to use your brain except for a few ones. I wish there were more types of enemies since there are Enemy that shoots, Enemy that jumps if you hit it and deals alot of damage up close, Enemy that buffs and yeah that's about it. Enemies are less of enemies but rather obstacles instead. Currently playing a second playthrough since I've only played it once which was at launch so that I can see if the game really was as I remember and yeah it is. I forgot how much dialogue is gags and like 25% of it is plot, I say that as a good thing though. From my first playthrough there were things I found memorable such as first encountering Toshiro but I don't remember the second palace except from a few key plot points. I remember plot points from the third palace but I vaguely remember suffering in the third palaces gameplay. I do not remember why and because I'm on my second playthrough I AM SCARED. I'd like to say something about Toshiro, his design is kind of bland. he's just kind of a guy in a business suit. Take Larry from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet for example, he's basically the same thing being a regular guy but he has some unique design elements that make him memorable but Toshiro has about nothing even though he's supposed to be a main character.. Toshiro is kind of the punching bag and characterized as a coward which honestly is pretty funny. Erina has a really great design and I wish we could see her as a Persona 5 Model, her personality is also really great. I enjoyed Erinas and Toshiro's voice acting, the voices feel really fitting for their characters. I love Persona 5 Tactica Lavenza, she's so incredibly entertaining and we actually see her have more personality. I've seen some people say the music isn't memorable but I hard disagree. I love the soundtrack in this game, especially the beneath the mask remix, it's so calming and does feel like you're just relaxing and having a good time. The vocal tracks I think are really good, it doesn't have the same intense energy as Persona 5 Royal or Strikers but I personally don't think it's a bad thing, it fits for the gameplay Tactica has. I wish Inextinguishable would play more though, it's one of my favorite songs from Persona 5 as a whole. The artstyle is also very pleasing, it allows the characters to be much more expressive and I love that. The game takes place after Persona 5 and they don't stray away from mentioning things that happened in Persona 5. That DOES make the audience smaller as people that haven't played Persona 5 will get spoiled hard if they play this game first. This should totally have been a lower priced game as games like Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Royal have the same price and both of those games have way more content than this game does. If this was a lower priced game I'm sure it would be way more liked but oh well. DLC makes it even worse since if you want both it's now more expensive than Persona 5 Royal. I'd say the game is a 7.5/10 experience buuut not worth the price at all. I say that as a big Persona fan AND as a big Persona 5 Tactica fan.
The only real issue with Persona 5 Tactica is the wildly unjustified price, so you definitely want to get this on sale. Otherwise, if you liked the Persona 5 characters and you like grid and turn based tactical RPGs, it's a solid choice. The story wouldn't make any sense if you didn't play P5 first, but it tells a coherent and focused tale that's worth playing through. I appreciate that both the story and the gameplay is considerably more streamlined than P5, so you can experience the best parts without a lot of repeat dialogue, walking around, or endless fights. I also like that there isn't anything missable along the way. The skill selection is fun as are the weapon and Persona variety. It isn't the most challenging game out there, but it's worth it.
The most overhated persona spinoff game. At the time of reviewing this, I'm trying to get 1 achievement for 100% completion and i'm just starting the DLC. The game isn't bad at all. Yes although some levels can be overwhelming or annoying to deal with, its still manageable. I saw a review saying cutscenes are bad, and yes in the beginning it isn't that good but it gets better overtime. Gameplay is really fun in my opinion. The only reason I think people dislike this is because tactics games are just more hated, plus its nothing like the base Persona5 turnbased system. The game also impliments traditional visual novel like styles with still backgrounds and such. The only thing im pissed off about is the 100% compendium achievement. This is because you need to fully play the game TWICE for the New Game+ personas like Izanagi-No-Okami and Messiah from Persona 4 and 3. This achievement (which I still haven't gotten) is annoying simply because my second playthrough is just me skipping dialogue and replaying missions. Overall this game is 100% overhated. I enjoy the gameplay a lot, while this being my first tactis game. Character models are hated by others but I really like the art style. Newly introduced characters have good development too. The soundtrack is considered worse than base Persona 5 but the DLC music is really good. Yes although I am a mindless consumer, I don't get the hate for this game.
