Well made walking simulator from Emika Games, a dev I've been following for a while now. I didn't miss a single game from them and Pieces of Me clearly is my second favorite after Father's Day. I loved the sounds and atmosphere. The graphics are highly detailled and amazing. The cat is a hero and there are many little fun achievements to collect, even after completing the game once.
What can I say about this game? I really enjoyed it. This isn't my first time playing EMIKA games. I really like what these guys do. I really respect their efforts. This game isn't as scary as their other games, but I understand why. This game focuses more on the girl's story and the issue of bullying than on sudden jump scares. For that, they deserve a lot of credit.Ё
I own every one of Emika’s games. Most are amazing, a couple are not so good (mostly the earlier games - Emika has come very as a developer and story teller). This one is just awesome. Graphically beautiful, the atmosphere is very unsettling, and the story is extremely well thought out. Usually these kinds of indie horror games, the story is just a generic afterthought sandwiched in between a bunch of cliche, cheap, tired jumpscares. Pieces of Me - not the case. The story is very dark and brings up uncomfortably heavy themes. I really enjoyed it. As far as the jumpscares, they’re handled a little differently here. It’s still the same old jumpscares we have come to expect, but they’re not abused and they’re well timed. They add to the story this time. The game relies on the world and its environment to scare you usually. And it’s done well! One thing I really enjoyed is the live action recap of Emika’s previous game “September 7th” that is available to watch in the main menu. It’s shockingly well done, effective and necessary to watch as Pieces of Me is set in the same universe. Theres also a live action cutscene in the game that is a great watch, too. I don’t remember this type of stuff in other Emika games, but to me, this shows how far of a dev he has come. I highly recommend it. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, and doesn’t really introduce anything we haven’t seen before from the genre. It does what other indie horror games have done, but adds a really thick layer of polish to it.
