Spoilers ahead for anyone who wants to experience the game themselves! This is a significant improvement over the first episode, with a story that can be pieced together through subtle environmental clues. The game strongly suggests that some kind of trafficking ring is operating at the motel, and the protagonist herself suspects organized activity by the end. Especially because they don't want the police involved. There are so many interesting details. Jason aimlessly wandering around the store and telling you "BIG MISTAKE" after asking about the monster, the cashier seemingly stalling you while the man in the white van tampers with your car, and the fact that you can actually spot another guy in the woods before reaching the gas station. There's also the red car that speeds off if you try to overtake it, only to reappear later at the motel. The motel itself has a notice stating that it isn't approved for occupancy and that removing the notice is punishable by law, suggesting the business is operating illegally. The door next to the cursed coffee machine opens slightly before shutting as you approach. You can hear someone speaking inside, eventually interrupted by another voice, suggesting multiple people are present. Interestingly, the same red car is parked right outside this room. There are also road closure signs nearby. Could they be using them to redirect traffic toward the motel? Why else would they be there? The phone doesn't work, conveniently preventing you from calling 911. If you get up immediately after seeing the man at the blinds and go outside, you can see him returning to the same room next to the vending machine. Later, after being drugged, when you lead Joe to the vending machine, the red car's trunk is open. Why is he so insistent that you return to your room? I wonder if he was the weak link in the operation and eventually developed some sympathy for Holly. There's also a camera flash when you return to your room, accompanied by whispering outside the window, again suggesting that multiple people are involved. So many subtle details that make you question everything and piece the story together yourself. It was fun.
It’s cool how the game starts off as something potentially supernatural, but as it develops, it turns into the most frightening horror of all – real world horror. I really like these games in general and this one is no exception. However, the controls are a tad bit glitchy and some of the story progression is unclear at times. Still a solid entry though and a must for those who enjoy feeling extremely uncomfortable and uneasy once in a while. :)
