Planes, Bullets and Vodka, developed and published by NukGames, is a minimalist yet brutally fast-paced arcade shooter that wears its retro inspirations proudly. It strips away any semblance of story or elaborate progression systems, focusing entirely on the purity of dodging, shooting, and chasing high scores. The setup is straightforward: you pilot a small aircraft through procedurally generated tunnels, blasting enemies and weaving through dense waves of projectiles while trying to keep your score multiplier alive. What it lacks in narrative or complexity, it makes up for with immediacy, intensity, and an addictive loop that constantly dares you to last just a little bit longer. The gameplay is built around speed and precision. Enemies flood the screen in chaotic swarms, firing in patterns that gradually evolve into bullet hell territory. Every run forces you to react quickly and commit to tight movements, as even a brief lapse in attention is enough to bring your attempt to an abrupt end. The scoring system rewards efficiency and accuracy: maintaining a multiplier depends on taking down enemies without letting any slip past, creating constant tension between offense and survival. Because the tunnel layouts are procedurally generated, no two sessions feel exactly the same, giving the game replayability despite its simplicity. It’s the kind of title that thrives on muscle memory and incremental improvement, where dying quickly isn’t failure but an invitation to jump right back in. Visually, the game opts for a raw, functional pixel style. It isn’t flashy, but it gets the job done, ensuring that enemies, bullets, and hazards remain clear even when the screen is cluttered. The stark presentation reinforces the arcade-like spirit, though some players may find the aesthetic too plain compared to other modern indie shooters. The soundtrack does more heavy lifting in giving the game its identity, with pounding electronic tracks that fuel the frantic pace. A free DLC even offers the full soundtrack separately, showing how much emphasis the developers placed on audio as a way to heighten immersion during intense runs. Where the game shines brightest is in its accessibility and replay loop. Sessions are short, making it easy to dive in for a few minutes or lose hours chasing a new high score. Steam reviews remain overwhelmingly positive, with players praising its fast action and addictive design. Its low price point also makes it an easy impulse purchase, and frequent discounts only reinforce its appeal as a value-packed arcade experience. For fans of old-school score chasers, this no-frills approach is exactly what they’re looking for. However, the game is not without its shortcomings. The lack of progression systems, unlockable content, or alternative modes means the core experience is all you get from start to finish. While some players appreciate the purity of this design, others may find it grows repetitive once they’ve grown comfortable with the mechanics. The simplicity of the graphics, while clear, can also feel underwhelming in a market where many indie titles lean on distinctive or stylish visuals to stand out. Additionally, minor technical complaints—such as inconsistent achievement tracking or limited customization for controls—have been noted by completionists and those who prefer flexible input options. Planes, Bullets and Vodka ultimately succeeds because it knows exactly what it wants to be: a stripped-down, high-speed bullet hell experience that channels the spirit of the arcade. It doesn’t attempt to reinvent the genre or dazzle with elaborate systems, but instead delivers a focused challenge that rewards quick reflexes and relentless practice. For players who crave score-driven chaos and the thrill of dodging through impossible odds, it offers hours of addictive fun at a fraction of the cost of bigger titles. For those looking for narrative depth, progression, or visual spectacle, its appeal may be limited, but within its niche, it delivers a sharp and satisfying dose of arcade adrenaline. Rating: 7/10

Not a bad vertical scrolling shooter for a couple hours in the spirit of old arcade shooters with top or side view. Gameplay is very simple. Just fly and shoot enemies, which gradually become more difficult. As such, there is no ultimate goal, except to try to earn as many points as possible to beat your own record or go up the record table. To help the player there are several powerups like health replenishment, shield and firepower increase. Graphics in the game is the simplest, and at the same time quite acidic, from which after a short time the eyes get very tired. The soundtrack is rather strange, which is not catchy or memorable, just something playing in the background. In the end, if you don't expect any revelations from this game and just get all the achievements in an hour or two, it's not a bad time-killer, but it will get boring quickly in the long run. ahuenno

My Planes, Bullets and Vodka Review Rating: 7.5/10 Planes, Bullets and Vodka is a quirky little game that mixes flight combat with survival elements and a surprisingly charming Eastern European vibe. You’re flying around a post-apocalyptic wasteland, shooting down enemies, gathering loot, and basically doing whatever you can to stay alive. The title alone had me curious—and it definitely delivers on that wild, unpredictable energy. The gameplay is fast and a bit chaotic, which works well with the game’s offbeat tone. Flying feels smooth enough, and the mix of dogfights and scavenging keeps things interesting. The graphics aren’t flashy, but the style fits the gritty, makeshift world perfectly. It’s definitely not a super polished AAA experience, and some parts can feel a little rough around the edges, but that roughness adds to its charm. If you’re into games that are a bit weird, a bit tough, and don’t take themselves too seriously, this one’s worth a shot. For me, it’s a solid 7.5 out of 10. Not perfect, but a cool little indie surprise with a lot of heart—and vodka, apparently.

If the trailer looks good to you, you’ll probably enjoy this game. It’s a straightforward shoot 'em up with power-ups, increasing enemy spawns, and a shrinking play area that adds some challenge. It’s an easy game for achievements and fun to relax with for a few hours, especially with some music in the background. That said, it’s a bit too simple for my taste and doesn’t have a ton of replayability. Definitely grab it on sale!
