Experienced on the HP Reverb G2 using the Oasis Driver for Windows Mixed Reality and on the Meta Quest 3 You can view my VR gameplay & early impressions here: https://youtu.be/_kie4e7qLGw Yes, this game does indeed have unofficial VR support. You have to go into the settings to enable VR. Fair warning though, the game does NOT automatically start in VR. You then have to press enable VR from the desktop menu and it'll start once you have a mission started from the desktop menu. In VR, while all this is going on, you'll only see a view of a moon crater. You will not see the menu UI at all. The VR will not start until the mission itself is actually loading in. From that point on, everything is in VR. However, VR interactions, at least currently, are all done by point and click interactions, along with face button pushes. You will not be able to physically interact with the cockpit buttons or levers, etc. You do have motion controlled avatar hands, but they are actually separate from the hands of the astronaut. If your rig and VR display connection can handle it, the visuals are gorgeous. The game is running on the Unity Engine. On my RTX 5090, the visuals were amazing. These are some of the best visuals in VR. Tired of Quest visuals? Then get this game. This is the PCVR we remember. You're totally immersed in a realistic environment. Experiencing something special that only the magic of PCVR can bring. The game takes space simulation to the next level. Other than the g-forces missing, you will feel like you're taking off into space and more. I felt what can only be described as being awestruck with the beauty of space and earth. For that reason alone, this is a must buy for PCVR, if you're a VR veteran, who can handle the current limitations, and if you have a sufficient rig to handle this experience. Rate 11/10. I bought this game! If you enjoyed my review, please consider joining my Steam Curator group [url=https://steamcommunity.com/groups/Oculus_WMR]Oculus Rift Reviews.

KSP made me think I was good enough to run a space program and fly rockets, Reentry made me realise I was wrong. 10/10

After dozens of hours in this simulator, I just can’t stay silent - this is one of those rare titles that truly makes your happy. Makes your dream to be a spaceman! First of all, the developer - Petri Wilhelmsen, thank you, Petri, for not just making another sim, but for creating something with real soul. Petri, your balance between realism and playability is spot on. It’s not about “100% accuracy,” it’s about making it feel real - and you absolutely nailed it. Second - the atmosphere. This isn’t just a salad of numbers and switches; here you genuinely feel like an astronaut. The view of Earth, the sense of weight, the checklists, the switches - everything clicks perfectly together. Third - the structure. From Mercury, through Gemini, all the way to Apollo and the Moon - Petri, you let me experience the evolution of space exploration step by step. It’s not just “launch and watch,” it’s a journey. My personal favorite moment: launch, orbit, maneuver, reentry - and suddenly you sit there thinking, “That’s it - I’m in space.” At that moment, you realize why games like this matter. Petri, you managed to make me forget I was playing - I was living it. If you want a simulator that’s both serious and welcoming, Reentry is exactly that. And Petri - your work deserves a standing ovation. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - absolutely deserved. Petri, please keep going - I can’t wait to see what comes next. Thank you for the cosmos, and thank you for the game.

In case your wondering; my first session of Reentry-Orbital Simulator went good! I had set all the game options to "Realistic" with no button hints, checklist hints, and had Orbital Decay ENABLED... because.. come on... I'm a "Pro" at these things. I started in a dark capsule and the very first checklist item was to "Toggle Main Battery to ON". COULDN'T for the life of me find the "Battery" switch. Hunted FOREVER... Apparently, I only had so much time to get the Gemini capsule powered up before launch, that...when launch came...I still hadn't found the "Main Batteries" switch. Which meant my virtual fat-a** was launched into orbit with a "cold-and-dark" command module... So now I find myself... in space... in the dark and ANY hope of finding the the "Battery Switch" is shot to he** because... It's DARK... So after a while of deep self-reflection, I decided to pop the capsule hatch open to view the big, blue earth until my orbit decayed enough for me to re-enter in a burning ball of shame... I cannot recommend this sim enough for anyone interested in the early days of space exploration, or anyone who likes to control complex machines. The amount of detail and the complexity of the spacecraft are astounding, ALL DONE BY A SINGLE DEVELOPER! The commitment this sole talented developer has for this sim and the research required to make it in the first place is remarkable.

I’ve been completely blown away by Reentry. You get to climb into the actual Mercury, Gemini and Apollo capsules (both the Command Module and Lunar Module) and every cockpit is fully interactive. Almost every switch, fuse, gauge and light works. Almost every switch can be modified and will trigger a reaction in the simulator. It’s also worth noting that each space program uses a single generic cockpit model (for example, all Apollo Command Modules are essentially the same, all Lunar Modules are the same) rather than mission-specific variants. The fidelity is amazing – the cockpits are NASA-accurate, you literally flip the batteries, valves and rocket switches just like the real astronauts did. (The Lunar Module isn’t 100% complete yet, some backup/redundant systems aren’t implemented in Early Access yet but the core systems are all there.) Learning the systems is the whole point. Reentry comes with a huge in-game “Academy” and tutorial missions for Mercury, Gemini and Apollo. I’ve worked through all of the Academy lessons, and they really do teach you the spacecraft system by system. There are flight manuals for each vehicle and dozens of checklists, just like the real programs had. Each lesson or mission walks you through one procedure at a time (for example, powering up the fuel cells, configuring the RCS, setting up guidance, etc.), and you learn what each switch and gauge does. The Academy is very step-by-step: “each lesson is focused on one or two procedures… explain them at a basic level,” so you never feel lost. As a result, I feel like I understand how the real Mercury/Gemini/Apollo systems actually work. The mission reinforce that knowledge, you follow every numbered step and checklist in order, using the in-cockpit avionics and even the onboard computer (the old NASA AGC) to automate parts of the flight. In short, you spend almost all your time checking the right boxes in the checklist and verifying each system, rather than flying by “seat-of-your-pants”. There is not much flying to do in Reentry… you are going to be flipping switches most of the time, so even the keyboard is appropriate. The challenge is procedure and precision, not arcade-style flying (aside from maybe the final reentry burn, which does require good timing). Fortunately the interface helps a ton, because each capsule really is covered in hundreds of controls. Whenever I need to find a switch, the game’s cockpit aid literally highlights it. This “cabin cursor” aid is a lifesaver when you’re in a maze of panels. Over time you learn where things are (and can even move between commanderi/pilot seats in Gemini/Apollo), but the highlight makes the learning curve much gentler. Performance has been rock-solid on my rig (RTX 3070 8GB, i9-12900K, Windows 11). I crank everything to max and it runs silky-smooth, no crashes at all in dozens of hours. The load times are quick, though my GPU fans do run nearly full-speed. The game does support some cool peripherals: there’s preliminary OpenXR VR support if you really want to immerse yourself but I haven't tested it myself. TrackIR can be enabled in settings, and joysticks/HOTAS are fully mappable. In practice I mostly used the mouse/keyboard. TrackIR is rather annoying when you have to flip rows of small switches. The point is: you can use a HOTAS if you like but I found myself mostly clicking switches with the mouse. Just so it’s clear, my experience so far has been almost exclusively with the guided Academy and mission content (with system failures turned off to keep things nominal). I haven’t dabbled in the “free flight” sandbox or historical missions (like Apollo 13) yet. I’ve been following the official checklists and doing everything by the book, so these impressions are from the “happy path.” From what I can tell, failures and advanced mission-editing are there or coming, but I wanted to master the normal operations first. It's also possible to play in "multiplayer" but there is one player in the cockpit. The other players are playing CapCom in Houston. There is one official MP session every Monday on Discord but as I never played on, I can't tell more. Mastering the various responsibilities in CapCom is a part of the learning tree I have not yet explored. One of the coolest things for me is how actively this game is being developed. The dev posts updates every week or so, The dev has mentioned a target of releasing 1.0 (feature-complete) sometime soon, and indeed the current build is nearly at v1.0 functionality. Right now it’s discounted for Early Access buyers. In short, this isn’t abandonware: it gets new features and polish constantly. Finally, the community is fantastic. There’s an official Discord with hundreds of “virtual astronauts” on it, plus the developer himself frequently pops in to answer questions. Whenever I hit a snag (or had a “how does this switch work?” question), I hopped on Discord and got friendly, knowledgeable answers right away. It really feels like a group project among spaceflight fans and a very engaged dev. Overall, I’m extremely positive on Reentry. It’s been an educational blast – I’ve legitimately learned a ton about how actual NASA missions were run, all while having fun. The balance is perfect: it’s realistic enough to feel authentic, but still accessible thanks to the built-in training and helpers. For anyone who’s ever wondered “how the heck did the Apollo astronauts manage all that?” this game is ideal. It’s like a NASA cockpit simulator that’s actually enjoyable. In short, if you’re into spaceflight and want a true-to-life experience of Mercury/Gemini/Apollo, buy this now. You won’t regret it.
