Alien Isolation is my favourite horror game of all time, so when I heard this had a similar stalker style antagonist AI, I was intrigued. And yeah, there are shades of that cat and mouse tension here, but it never reaches the same terrifying behaviour that the Xenomorph had. The rough around the edges mechanics mean it sometimes crosses from tense into straight-up frustrating. That said, the atmosphere is great very old-school horror vibes and the narrative is genuinely interesting. It’s the story that ultimately kept me pushing through, even when the gameplay was testing me. Other players have said the same the world and sound design pull you in, and when the game hits, it really hits. It’s just worth noting the story can get a bit convoluted if you don’t keep up with all the notes and lore pieces, and there are some technical hiccups depending on the platform. Still, you don’t see many modern games try to emulate something as intense as Isolation and for that alone, it deserves some respect. Even with the rough patches, it’s worth trying if you want that slow burn horror.

This game is not for the faints of heart. Tension is very high from start to end. This is pure adult horror taking inspiration from movies by Dario Argento and Alfred Hitchcock, and games as Clock Tower and Alien: Isolation. It's the kind of game where fear accompanies your every step, where sometimes you don't dare move from your hiding place and in the end you decide to finish the game promising yourself to try again later. Just as in Alien: Isolation or Visage, the tension is always high making it difficult for you to think clearly, you don't always know precisely what to do, you don't always know what and where to search, you need to perform trials and errors and repeated explorations of the same places. I don't think these are defects, I think they make the game more realistic, more serious, less toy-like and closer to plausible survival experience. Some reviewers complain that it's not always clear where the sound of footsteps and speech of the chasers is coming from. Well, I invite the reviewers to visit an old and very big abandoned mansion where every single creak or the sound of the wind is amplified and reverberated in all directions, where you can distinguish a whisper even if it comes from another floor and so on. Furthermore, the trick of enhancing and blurring noises and sounds is typical of all horror films; it's an artistic effect that creates the right atmosphere of uncertainty and tension; I really don't understand these complaints. On the contrary, the great sound design, creating such an immersive and effective atmosphere, is to be applauded. Even the original soundtrack is very good and adds to the atmosphere. It's not only a matter of sound; developers put a lot of effort in the architecture of the mansion, in the design of the ambients and furnitures, in lighting and so on. Very good use of UE4 here. Remothered shows that you don't always need big worlds or many locations to develop a good game. Just like in many movies, sometimes one location is enough. And the Felton mansion is a very haunting and remarkable location. You can see the different and more adult approach even in details. In Remothered you need to collect very few documents. Many developers make the grave mistake of relying on tons of documents scattered around the game world to reconstruct the story, thus mocking the players' intelligence. It's unclear why people would leave so many documents lying around in the most unlikely places, and why they would write so much, and about things that in reality no one would write! Remothered consciously avoids this gross error; there are very few documents to read, mostly newspaper articles and photos, and they're found in fairly plausible places. And above all, they don't reveal too much of the story, only adding a few clues. Even puzzlesare in keeping with the atmosphere, quite plausible and realistic, and don't clash with the story or ruin the survival experience; a remarkable achievement considering that in most games, the exact opposite happens. It's clear that the developers thought long and hard before designing the gameplay. Obviously Remothered is not without flaws. As many indie productions, animations and human models are not at the state of art, not comparable to AAA games for sure; however they are not so bad, they are ok, I would say AA. In my opinion, there's a design flaw: enemies sometimes scrutinize the closet we're hiding in very closely. How can they not notice our presence, and why don't they open the closet to check? Sometimes enemies notice us hiding in the closet; but then why not double-check every time? The smartest thing would have been to prevent the player from hiding in the closet when in the enemy's line of sight. And once hidden, don't let enemies approach the closet as if they suspect something. These are minor details, but in a game that takes realism very seriously, they're important. Many reviewers complain about many bugs and flaws. To be honest I didn't find any particular flaw or bug, except the moths! Maybe the game got patched in the meanwhile. Just one friction from time to time: selecting items by orienting the camera is not always smooth. I would like to say that not everything is smooth as expected in AAA games. But it's not true: today AAA games are sold at $80 but are more flawed than this one! Someone could complain about the unclear story; it's a deliberate choice from developers. Tormented Fathers was meant to be the first episode of a trilogy; evrerything would have been clear in the last episode, but it was never developed. That's why authors published a graphic novel to explain the dark sides of the unfinished story. By the way, I'm not so happy about the story. I don't want to spoil the story; just let me say it tastes like Phenomena (Dario Argento) meets Psycho (Hitchcock). Phenomena is a sort of horror fairy tale with a more simple and better plot imo. On the contrary, I think Remothered developers overdid. Story smells a bit of B or even Z movie, not so plausible and not so interesting to be honest. However the use of moths is very effective. In conclusion, Remothered is one of the scariest "flat" games I ever played. Flat means not VR, VR horror games are the scariest ever imo. Remothered is not for everyone because of very distressing gameplay (not flawed, on purpose), no combat, psychological horror, high tension hide 'n' seek game, very crude horror cut scenes especially in the end. Absolutely suggested to those who want their stomach tighten with tension and anxiety!

Remothered: Tormented Fathers is a horror game with fascinating story. First of all, the story offers you the atmosphere you need to feel close to your character, and to understand this better you should also play Broken-Porcelain. The whole point is to understand the story from every side. Υes! It has some bugs and sometimes makes game funny are ridiculous, like when you are hiding and the enemy just waiting for you outside. But curiosity about the story makes you to keep playing. Beautiful music, mysterious mansion, adventure ahead and.... rich people that hate you!

Very fun. Very scary. Soundtrack goes hard AF. I love that the main character looks like Jodie Foster and you basically run from the Trinity Killer!

Positive surprise. Nice old school survival horror style game like clock tower etc.. you need to hide from enemies and lot of puzzles/item searching and backtracking and difficulty is nicely challenging sometimes but nothing bad. - STORY - Story is surprisingly good and very interesting of this type of indie game, especially if you collect all collectibles and read them and characters are very interesting too. - ATMOSPHERE Nice and creepy, big old stone mansion and sometimes got nicely anxious feeling when wandering on the mansion and enemy is moving somewhere close or coming closer and see you. - GAMEPLAY Old school style puzzles and inventory where you need to select item before you can use it like many old horror games, it`s nice makes tension and anxious feeling because you can`t use items very fast to object. I mostly don`t like much QTE events but in this game they are very nice addition on the game because you only need to use your mouse buttons and you got time to react a lot so not some frustrating random keys in keyboard in the style of press J and then Z very fast of QTE. -DIFFICULTY (little bit longer because some players say it`s too hard) Game not very hard but nicely challenging, i maybe died only ten times and never use any distraction/diversion or defense items except at the very end of the game in the attic where space is not much and enemies always close. Mansion is full of those distraction items and throwing it you can freeze enemy short amount of time and if it grabs you, you can free yourself with defense item and those both items are very often to find and if you get being chased some hiding spots always success to lose enemy and you don´t die easily if taking damage. Mansion is very easy to navigate especially if you beginning of the game explore mansion through when there not yet any danger. - Some players whining about game saves, but game saving opportunities are a lot, you can almost every time example when you find an item sneak to one of the save mirrors and manually save and in the game end levels game auto saves very very often, so if you don't like very difficult games, don't worry this not super hard to play through. - SUMMARY I can recommend it very good horror experience and it`s easy if you know how to play and remember floor layouts and don`t rush take your time when try to avoid enemies, maybe i do not recommend if you are rush style gamer and are used to run game fast through and quick saving all the time without problems and you're used to easy games and don`t like slower/patience requiring or harder games. Not masterpiece but really entertaining and very interesting horror story with nice anxious feeling constantly and interesting characters. so easily 8/10 on this.
