In terms of gameplay, there are probably better games than this, yeah. But if you like Renfield, you'll love this! It is super fun and does a pretty good job at matching the vibe of the movie. I love how the game incorporates themes from the movie with the whole "save the victim" mechanic, as well as in the quirky details like all the XP and powerups being bugs and some of the talent/weapon names being themed around things from the film. The levels follow the locations as the plot progresses through them in the movie, which is great. There's some extra lore hidden in here??? And it's only $5! Surprisingly good for a tie-in game for a standalone movie that didn't really get much else. The lack of heals, the XP bugs moving slowly (thereby making it difficult to level up), and some of the more ridiculous unlock requirements are definitely all valid critiques here. BUT imo they can easily be overlooked. Look, I mainly play licensed games, so to me, the most important thing is that it feels like Renfield and is actually playable lol, so I'm having a ton of fun with it. Again, if you just judge it as a video game, there are probably better games. It exceeded my expectations though.

Renfield: Bring Your Own Blood" is a fast-paced, roguelite gem that punches above its movie tie-in weight. Inspired by the Nicolas Cage-led film, this Vampire Survivors-style game drops you into the chaotic shoes of Dracula’s overworked servant, slashing through New Orleans with satisfying one-touch combat. Its pixel-art charm, quirky bug-eating XP system, and tough-but-fair boss fights make it a blast, though the limited maps and grindy unlocks might wear thin for some. Still, for a quick, bloody good time, it’s a solid $5 pickup that outshines its cinematic roots

Great Vampire Survivors clone. One of the better ones with enough characters, levels, powers, weapons and stuff to enjoy for hours and hours.

This game feels more like The Binding of Issac's exploration, with a combination of Vampire Survivor's mechanics. I LOVE IT!!!

Alright, buckle up, fellow mortals and occasional bloodsuckers. I dove fang-first into Renfield: Bring Your Own Blood, expecting a standard vampire gig. You know, some cape flapping, garlic dodging, and maybe a couple of bats screeching at inappropriate times. But what I got? Oh, baby, this was an entirely different cocktail of plasma. To be fair, the first hour felt like I was waiting for Dracula to find the WiFi signal in his castle so he could start streaming Netflix. Sloooow start. I mean, I was pretty sure Renfield was gonna pop out and ask me to play Sudoku while the game "warmed up." But THEN—oh boy—once it sinks its teeth into you, things escalate faster than a bat on Red Bull. It’s like someone threw Castlevania, Dead Cells, and an emergency blood transfusion into a blender, chucked in a bottle of hot sauce for kicks, and poured it into my brain. And now I’m addicted. Send help… and also garlic bread. Combat? It’s like getting into a fistfight with a piñata full of arterial spray. I never knew slapping swarms of enemies could feel like dancing at a really violent wedding reception. But here we are. The upgrades are ridiculous. I’m pretty sure at one point I had a garlic shield, a plasma shotgun, and the ability to sass my enemies to death. Or maybe that was just a fever dream. Hard to tell after a few hours. The soundtrack? A mix between gothic vibes and "I'm about to overthrow a small village in Transylvania." It's like if Dracula ran a nightclub and this was the Friday Night Fang-Out playlist. All in all, if you’ve ever wanted to live out your fantasy of being Renfield, Dracula’s unpaid intern, dodging workplace hazards like getting your soul devoured (again), this game is for you. 4.5/5—knocked off half a star for that slow start, but it redeemed itself harder than a vampire at a garlic festival. So, BYOB: Bring Your Own Blood. I brought mine. Don’t ask where I got it.
