This was my first ever Resident Evil. Beat both Leon n Claire’s runs, n I feel I could navigate the RPD blindfolded at this point. The map design’s straight up chef’s kiss, puzzles hit just the right difficulty n all the clues tie together super smoothly. Only thing is every zombie’s a total damage sponge, so taking them down feels pretty weak early on. Horror-wise, most of the tension comes from the constant pressure of Mr. X chasing u around. Barely any cheap jump scares to be found, n once u get used to the rhythm later on, it stops feeling scary at all.
When I first played it I was so terrified walking through the halls of the RPD. It's such a good horror experience and it's made me appreciate horror as a genre, considering I used to avoid it like the plague. Now there's a comfort in the dark and unknown I didn't feel before. Such an amazing experience that I think everyone should try! 10/10
Resident Evil 2 is a perfect remake that shows how horror games should be remade. The atmosphere of Raccoon City is truly flawless. Every corridor is narrow, every sound is unsettling, and you constantly play with the feeling of "what's going to happen next?". The game takes the classic zombie theme to new heights with modern graphics and excellent sound design. The separate stories of Leon and Claire significantly increase the desire to replay the game. While the puzzles retain the old Resident Evil spirit, the balance between action and suspense is perfectly adjusted. Mr. X is a separate story… His entrance into the room completely changes the game's tempo and truly creates a sense of panic. The feeling that he's constantly following you is one of the game's strongest aspects. As minor criticisms, inventory management can sometimes be challenging, and some sections are overly tense, so they might not appeal to everyone. But that's the point of the game anyway. In short: One of the best in its genre in terms of horror, atmosphere, and remake quality. 🧟♂️ "Here, survival isn't about luck, it's about decision."
I was never a horror game lover. I used to be a scaredy cat when I was a kid, and even while growing up I avoided anything scary. But one day I randomly thought of trying this game, just to see if I could deal with the horror and maybe face my fears somehow. And it turns out I found a masterpiece of a series and a masterpiece of a game. The puzzles in this game are lovely. I never felt bored or overwhelmed, they have just the perfect balance. It actually feels satisfying to solve them instead of feeling stuck or frustrated. The gunplay is also really enjoyable, and the journey of finding better weapons along the way feels completely worth it. Every upgrade feels earned and makes progression exciting. The horror in this game is pretty light compared to others in the series like Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, but it still has some really good jumpscares. I’d honestly recommend this to anyone thinking about buying it.
