The Best Game of the Series. A title that managed to become the game I enjoyed and liked the most while playing in the series. Outside of the franchise, it is an accomplished masterpiece in general. What sets it apart from most RE games is that there is depth to this game. Compared to other RE titles, you can form a bond with the main character, side characters, and villains. Yes, characters like Leon and Chris are also very important, but I don't think a bond like the one established with Ethan Winters across a single game was ever achieved. Personally, even though I like Chris more, this game is an absolute masterpiece. Instead of mindless enemies found in other entries of the series, there are much better bosses. Most of them have personality and thoughts of their own. Story and Characters We continue with Ethan Winters, whom we know from the previous game. In this game, Ethan's story turns into a much more personal and emotional journey. Following the events of RE7, Ethan is no longer just someone trying to survive; he is a father willing to risk everything for his family. This adds a very strong motivation to the narrative. If you remember in the previous game, he couldn't make sense of what was happening at first and focused on escaping, and later focused on saving Mia. At the center of the game stands the mysterious Mother Miranda and the four lords under her control. By four lords, I mean basically Miranda's mock children. One of the things that makes the story intriguing is these pseudo-children; each of these characters has a distinct personality and motivation. While Lady Dimitrescu is arrogant and overly confident in her power, Karl Heisenberg turns into a remarkably striking antagonist with his intellect and rebellious attitude. On the other hand, Salvatore Moreau, who is bullied within the family, tries to prove that he is someone of importance. Lastly, Donna Beneviento and Angie remain a bit more childish compared to the others and stick to their own devices. The tension and simmering hatred among these characters whom Miranda considers her so-called "family" adds an unexpected depth to the plot. I say unexpected because while these lords act like kittens in front of Miranda, they hold nothing back when talking behind her back :d At least Heisenberg and Dimitrescu complain quite a bit about this situation. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails?id=3684935701 We also see Chris GOATfield, one of the iconic characters of the series, in this game, and he plays a very crucial role. With his mysterious entrance at the beginning of the story and the truths revealed in later chapters, the game succeeds in hooking us and piquing our curiosity. Gameplay and Mechanics Village delivers horror and action in a very balanced way. Throughout the game, we experience both classic survival horror and action-oriented shootouts. Although action picks up heavily after a certain point, the tension created early on when we barely have decent gear, along with Angie's intense sections, balances the gameplay nicely. The parts where we navigate the basement of Angie's house without getting caught by the Baby were great. Additionally, we shouldn't forget that our weapons are taken away here; leaving us defenseless in a way, which ramps up the tension of the environment. Weapon variety and the upgrade system are heavily improved compared to the previous game. It has very satisfying gameplay, and enemy variety is sufficient. The pressure and constant sense of threat created by werewolves and similar creatures in the village are executed very well. In some places, we can see them watching us from the rooftops, which I think is one of those details that enhances the gameplay. Lastly, because each boss fight offers a different gameplay dynamic, the game's pacing remains lively at all times. Graphics and Atmosphere One of Village's strongest aspects is without a doubt its art design. The snow-covered village with its dark tone, gothic-architecture castles, gloomy mansions, and industrial areas are visually stunning. On 4K Ultra settings, the game looks extremely detailed and lifelike. Lighting, character models, and environmental designs are very well done. Just like other games in the franchise and their REMAKE versions, optimization is exceptional. Ambient audio, howling wind, and the screeches of enemies keep the player on edge constantly. This further reinforces the dark and menacing vibe of the village. Music and Sound Effects Sound design is one of the most critical elements completing Village's atmosphere. Ambient sounds, enemy effects, and gunfire are high quality. Especially the music and sound effects used during tense moments successfully elevate the pressure on us. We can see this clearly in one of my favorite sections, where we are chased by the Baby in Angie's house. The music utilized towards the finale amplifies the emotional impact of the scenes and supports the dramatic tone of the story. They delivered a magnificent finale... Technical and Performance Technically, it offers rock-solid performance. Thanks to being well-optimized, it delivers a smooth experience even at high resolutions and graphical presets. Throughout my extensive playtime, I did not encounter severe performance issues or distracting technical bugs. Pressing F12 played the notification sound, but it wasn't saving any screenshots. I noticed this past the halfway mark of the game, and it really bummed me out. After realizing it, I took screenshots using AMD's software. When I researched the problem, I saw that a significant number of people experienced this issue; it is most likely a bug related to the game itself. While it doesn't affect gameplay, it is a bit frustrating for people like me who upload screenshots to Steam. Overall In short, RE Village is a title that successfully strikes the balance between horror and action, possesses a powerful atmosphere, and is technically very solid. For me, it is simply a masterpiece. With its unforgettable characters, impressive art direction, and smooth gameplay, it became my favorite entry in the series. Combining horror elements rooted in the franchise's heritage with modern action, you should definitely give this title a try. It was a great experience from start to finish. I really liked how every area felt different, so it never got repetitive. The mix of horror and action was just right, and some moments were incredibly stressful. I enjoyed Ethan's story, and Rose's DLC was a nice addition too. I'd happily play it again.

Upgrade a shotgun. Upgrade another shotgun. Forget which shotgun you're using. Open map. Everything is red. Close map. Problem solved. Feel safe. Leave merchant. Immediately regret it. Find a key. Need another key. Need another key for the key. Need another key for the key that unlocks the key. Understand nothing. Keep going. At some point I just stopped asking questions. Resident Evil Village is one of the first games that feels truly "next-gen," with absolutely stunning tech bolstered by the industry-leading RE Engine. Stunning visuals, truly bizarre creatures, a memorable parade of eccentric characters, and truly satisfying gameplay make Resident Evil Village soar, even if a few quirks in the plot delivery deflate the spectacle. Resident Evil Village is a truly excellent game and one of the best entries in the legendary franchise. Long may it continue.
