I know it's probably like, not all that customary, but I don't even think it's really easy to describe why I suggest you pick up Rhythm Doctor in simple words, there's not really much I can say that either hasn't been said before, or I think I just CAN'T really say without mangling said words. I loved this game even before 1.0's release, and, of course, the full experience, the full story DOES help strengthen that love. So, what can I say? Well, for starters, the story is great. I've been playing the game since the original Macromedia Flash-based web demo released, and boy howdy did the story evolve over the years since that released. Not to get too spoiler heavy, but the fact that all the seemingly disconnected plotpoints, like the highschoolers who can't really get their feelings out for each other all too well, or the baseball guy, or even the addicts' whole "they rely on each other to sate their unhealthy addictions" thing, they all just- they come together towards the end (or sometimes even cross paths even before the finale), it just- it's great. I am horrible at explaining my thoughts on things, so that's how I'll put it. Great. Also, the music. All I have to say about the music is... Muah. Perfection. Moving on. As for the gameplay, which I probably shoulda touched on first, Rhythm Doctor is controlled with just one button. Just press on the seventh beat. How hard can it actually be? Well, the game is hard. Hard hard. Brutally hard, at times. The gameplay switches up constantly, what with gameplay gimmicks like the Oneshots introduced in Act 2, or having to deal with more than one lane of patients' heartbeats, holding beats down, or as of the 1.0 release, spoilers by the way, hitting on the 5th beat instead of the 7th, alongside mixing these mechanics together to confuse the average player, and also other ways of tripping you up (like time-signature changes, polyrhythms, wild BPM swings, glitching up the visuals...) You really need a good sense of rhythm if you want to get through the handful of patients that Middlesea Hospital takes in throughout the story, or the night levels, or even the bonus crossover stages. Or, hell, even all those wacky custom characters that you'd find in the countless number of player-created stages. Oh, speaking of... the level editor. So many people have been making levels for this game for lord knows how long now at this point. And all the stuff people've made so far, and potentially will make into the future? It's just... it's amazing, really. A powerful editor, rife for those with untapped creative potential to put their own spin on the Rhythm Doctor formula. Wanna play the Karate Man song from Rhythm Heaven Fever? There's a custom level for that. Butcher Vanity? Oh you bet. 2-1N wish i could care less but it's a Minecraft parody sung by GD Colon (who, minor tangent, is also a developer on this game. fun)? Ohoho you better freaking BELIEVE that that's a custom level. Basically, if a song exists, it probably has a custom level on the Steam Workshop or [url=https://rhythm.cafe]Rhythm Cafe . And if it doesn't, then open up that level editor and get creating. You can do it. Rhythm Doctor isn't perfect. But it's damn near close to it. I highly recommend that anyone who's a fan of A Dance of Fire and Ice, or Rhythm Heaven, or hell, just rhythm games in general gives this a go. And if this game is your first foray into rhythm gaming (you know, if Friday Night Funkin' wasn't already,) then be prepared to test how good you are at counting to seven to the music. And remember, no matter what happens, always press on the seventh beat. 9/10 game. Jesus Christ. I love it.

You know a rhythm game's good when you can play it without watching the visual cues. This game succeeds perfectly at that, even though it's almost impossible trying not to look when the game's window is moving around in every way possible, trying to make you lose the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 rhythm in your head. The gameplay is fun, but you certainly need to have a good sense of rhythm to enjoy the beautiful songs and in the meantime trying to press the keyboard every seventh beat. I think that the only bad thing about this game is that it's pretty short (i am at the start of act 5). Other than that, it's a great game I highly recommend

This is genuinely one of the best games I've ever played in my life, like not exaggerating. This is up there for me with games like Portal/Portal2, Hat in Time, Mouthwashing, and botw/totk. I can't properly describe how much I love this concept, god I wish this were a real thing because it would literally help hospital staff so much and it would also give jobs to more disabled people like me. Anyways, I can't recommend it enough, PLEASE PLAY THIS GAME!! Lmao great stuff and I wish nothing but success for the developers and I can't wait for the rest to come out.

Rhythm Doctor is a transcendental experience. This game is loosely modeled after Nintendo's Rhythm Heaven series but goes so much further in both premise, gameplay, and accessibility than Nintendo has to date. The premise is simple: you use one button to follow the rhythm cues, but the cues get more complicated and layer on top of each other over time... pretty much until you're a music theory god. While the minute-to-minute gameplay is addictive, the character writing, chart design and set pieces are what truly make this game shine. The game is subdivided into "acts", and in each one are 4-5 levels with front and back sides to enjoy. However, you also are introduced to a new pair of characters and experience the game through a series of cutscenes--many of which are weaved into the gameplay itself. Crazy, I know, but in that time you really do start to feel for and care for the characters introduced. While the final act of the game isn't out at the time of this review. I'm counting down the days to the 1.0 release and what I can only assume is the conclusion of the story. Rhythm Doctor is a must-play for rhythm game fans, but its accessibility and gradual introduction to rhythm concepts make this an apt pick for those who maybe haven't gotten into rhythm games before too. Other reviews mention that you can probably play the game blind, and I tend to agree. On top of all of this, Rhythm Doctor features a level editor and extensive community support through custom levels. I'm not a charter, but the few levels I downloaded through Steam Workshop were insane testaments to how powerful this editor is. On a personal note, I picked this game up due to its rave reviews without watching trailers or much previous research at all. I don't regret going in blind and I think this is probably the best way to go into this game. If you're on the fence, this game is well worth your time and money. I loved this game so much I bought it two more times for friends. Rhythm Doctor has shaped up into one of my favorite gaming experiences of the year and I'm looking forward to many more hours with it in the future.
