The granddaddy of rhythm runners and still hard to beat! Which childhood did I originally play this in? My third, my fourth? I don't know -- I'm on either my sixth or seventh right now. Whenever it was that I Bit.Trip ran on my Wii before work in the mornings, I remember it felt like falling into intense, no-mind meditation . . . and the game's still the same after all these years! The simple, sharp graphics have an undying appeal for me. Every action or ITEM GET generating a musical bleat that should be in time with the soundtrack makes me half-consciously synchronize with the levels in a way that's so, so satisfying when I win . . . so alluring when I've lost by a hair. Of course, the Bonus Get stages utterly lack music, so you've got to use only your eye. I really wanted to hundred-percent all of these extra inna woods segments, but each Bonus Get attempt requires you to first re-beat the main level, perfectly, yet again , and isn't that a little too much? It kind of takes me out of the no-mind state . . . What is Captain Video, anyway? A cylindrical guy in a suit? Or is he one and the same with the suit, sort of like Jotaro is with his cap? Either way, this whole series is great, and if you like this one, the second is fantastic too.

A good beginning for this rhythm auto-runner series. The game has simple and easy to understand controls, and the gameplay is fun and addicting. The music is excellent and the adaptive bits enhance the player input with it. It's got a few problems though: * There isn't a checkpoint system like following entries, making the later levels quiet frustrating as they get longer and longer. * The game runs at 60fps but the background has a set motion blur that you can't deactivate, making hazards more difficult to anticipate on first runs, adn it can cause a little eye strain if playing for long sesions. * While on the subject of hazards and backgrounds, some of them are not distinguishable enough. This can feel a little cheap taking into account that getting hit takes you all the way back to the beginning of the level. In conclusion, a good introduction for the series and a fun and challenging rhythm platformer.
