Everhood 2 is a devine comedy. Okay now that I got the flashy hook I should actually explain why I think this game is the best you could want from a sequel. The original Everhood is a game that can't really be followed up, any mimicking of the same message would be an antithesis to the message of the first. Everhood 2 instead takes you on a rollercoaster of chaos which is where alot of people disconnect with the game. The story is less traditional than the first game, the feeling of being lost and unsure about what was happening or going to happen was prevalent through the entire game, start to end, but that's part of what makes it so fun. It makes me feel like a child having their hand grabbed and being pulled past things I've never seen before, unsure of what the point of it was. The ending of Everhood 2 was something that I have only seen absolute love for or absolute hate for, I know personally that at the end of everything I was nearly rolling on the floor, after the constant barrage of characters and areas and choices and everything, that ending was just the hammer to glass that really made Everhood 2 be cemented as a gem. Don't get me wrong Everhood 2 didn't really have the same effect on me as the original Everhood, but I didn't expect it too either, it's okay for a sequel to be different and try its own thing and have its own message. Everhood 2 is a game that makes me happy, its unbelievably funny and outlandish and that's why I think its an amazing sequel. If Everhood was about enjoying life and not fearing death then what is Everhood 2 but an enjoyment of that life? I probably haven't gotten my point across and been more rambly then I should've but I'm fine with that. I hope that if you haven't played Everhood 2 that you atleast try and play it to the end, form your own opinions not those of others. If you have played Everhood 2 and disliked it then I'm sorry. I wish you could've enjoyed this game, but ask yourself what did you actually *want* from Everhood 2?

I really don't understand the hate for this game. Everhood 1 wrapped itself up in a neat, tight package that any direct sequel would've trampled over. Everhood 2 is more of a spiritual successor, heavily inspired by the themes and visuals of its predecessor. If you find the journey to be more memorable than the destination, you will enjoy Everhood 2. I seem to be in the minority of players who found the ending of Everhood 1 to be half-baked and full of hollow platitudes. In a time where every indie game (including Everhood 1) is trying to be "the next Undertale," it's refreshing to play a game that unapologetically enjoys being just that - a game. Entertainment. Vanity. Every character lies to you. Every world ends in ruin. Perhaps there is no meaning to it all. As Everhood 1 said: "There are no Absolute Truths. You are free to wrap your half-truths into whatever, that is the true beauty of it. You can make the rest up." "Go out and make some art." All is vanity, anyway.

Good game overall but as a sequel to the first game it's somewhat of an underwhelming experience. The two biggest cons I have is the overall story and repeat encounters. The story feels like it's made up of several different plots that don't really connect with each other and just do their own thing until they conclude with no impact on the overall story. This makes it feel like you're just going through random events for the majority of the game until it suddenly ends unlike the first one where you have a pretty obvious drive for both parts and it leads to a pretty satisfying finale imo. I'm also not a fan of being able to miss certain segments of the story depending on how good/bad you play. As for the repeat encounters they just suck. The first game was special because each fight was a unique experience and the second half changed up how they played when you redo them. This one has a lot generic enemies in certain areas that you end up re-fighting constantly and as a result they have to have short, lame, unmemorable songs that really diminishes a mostly good soundtrack and ruins the pacing. I still like most of the music, the gameplay is a nice improvement, most of the characters are still interesting, and I love the artstyle so I can definitely recommend giving it a buy.

Like most people, its hard to evaluate the game on a binary yes/no reccomendation scale. Heres what I think it does better and worse than everhood one : - Combat : The combat is the number one improvement from everhood one. More battles, better battles, good systems, it actually has a lot of depth and it is done well. - Music : Both games have amazing music, hard to say which is better. - Characters : While Everhood 2 has a **lot** more character designs and talkable npcs, like 80% of them are backer designed mushrooms confined to one room. I prefer the quality of character writing in everhood one, as you feel like you get closer to a smaller cast, while everhood 2's companion characters are more inconsistent and less likeable. Not a single person doesnt just see you as for their own gain, you don't make any close connections in that sense. - Humour : Both games have very "random" humour, which can be quite funny if done well. I personally liked both game's jokes and humour evenly. - Story : Story.. Is where everhood 2 falls short. I WANT to love the game's story and themes, I WANT to engage in the philosophical questions it raised like I can for everhood 1 but... Its too incoherent. I can clearly say "everhood one is a game about immortality", and while it obviously won't cover all the game's themes, it conveys an idea of them. I cannot do that for everhood 2. I guess it would be "about godhood" but thats a lot more esoteric and not nearly as deifned. The story has a lot of really good setups and it never resolves them. It could be very good, the devs gave themselves many ways to go to make a story on par with that of OFF for instance, but they never do. It feels like the game at the same time demands deep analysis and also refuses to have any element hold up to scrutiny. - Visuals : Like in the 1st, there are some really trippy visual moments, but with way less consistence of art style. it kinda works, but there are different resolutions of pixel art, some litteral photographs and some 3D renders inhabiting the same space, its jarring. Overall, everhood 2 is a game that has a really good combat system and music, but who's story falls short compared the the first game. I still think people should play it, hence the positive reccomendation, but with the correct expectations. Do play everhood 1 if you havent already tho!

It really does never end in Everhood... Everhood 2 was a game I was never expecting to exist, but here it is. The original Everhood was a HUGE inspiration to me and literally my mind on what a game could be and do. I really didn't have much of an expectation for this since I knew nothing could beat the original. I was correct. I do think that Everhood 2 does a great job at being a follow up to something that is VERY hard to follow up on. Whilst I do miss the challenge of Everhoods no attack dodge battles, as it made for a format where songs are longer and designed to build an experience of surviving through an enemy, Everhood 2 polished their battle system pretty well. The new use of 3D sprites was fun and worked well with the artstyle and the RPG mechanics, although a little complex I feel, did work out in the end to create something fun. I liked the increased amount of death saves and also how different segments had regen vs no regen. One detraction in this format is that the songs are much shorter and simpler as they are designed to be memorised and conquered. Given the 100+ enemies and NO HIT achievements in this game, it makes sense, but the music lover in me misses some of the absolute smash hits from the first games OST. In terms of art this game delivered heavy with SO MANY COOL DESIGNS! I love how the art style is 50 in 1 and it was great the Deltarune treatment was given with familiar returning faces and new guys. The charm and aesthetic and vibes were all perfect and made for a super enjoyable time. However the story, not so much. I really like the ideas they were going for with the exploration of the player/game life cycle and how the journey is what matters and not the destination. The use of philosophers and actual real life figures was cool, and I always love how the wacky humour blends with some insane revelatory dialogue to create such a unique mix. In the end, it definitely doesn't have the polish of the first games concept, and a lot of the time I was lost and let things wash over me. A lot of characters feel all over the place and not resolved either, but again, it never ends in Everhood. I will say the last boss battle sequence or whatever the 5 hours of endgame was, certainly LOOKED cool, but the story was all tangled up and felt as if it were exploring 10000 things at once. I can somewhat forgive it because the sheer audacity of retconning the back half of your game to boldly declare actually, it really DOES never end... is kind of a CRAZY MOVE and I can't not respect it. It's so typically Everhood, in the way these games have made me feel like no other have, from the POV of being a player of them. Overall I'd give it 7.5ish out of 10. Really solid aesthetic, the music still slaps, and overall super fun and interesting, but it just lacks the specialness of the first one. But... I think I'm ok with that. If this is the message they wanted to deliver to us, so be it. After all, it never ends in Everhood.
