I understand this game is from 2013 and the first in the series but it has many compatibility problems. often alt tabbing leads to game magically disappearing in the background, random crashes past long runs gameplay wise i dont think its much different from risk of rain returns (aside from the new keyboard layouts) i love this game i truly do but. I think you should get this game if you want a more harder challenge, in general save your bucks for risk of rain returns, its far more tweaked and stable than this.
Much as I love this game and think it's excellent, with the release of Risk of Rain Returns I think it's probably better to pick that one up since it fixes a lot of the annoyances that plagued the original release. This version is cheaper and tends to go on sale more often than Returns though, so if money is tight I'd say this is still quite playable and worth your time.
Risk of Rain is what happens when a game completely loses control of itself and somehow becomes better because of it. You start the run jumping around like “nice, simple little indie game” and then 40 minutes later the screen looks like a microwave full of fireworks. Enemies everywhere, missiles flying, your character bouncing off walls at mach 6, and some giant jellyfish sniping you from another zip code. The best part is you barely even know what your items do anymore. You just keep picking up random crap like a goblin. “Oh cool, a rusty spoon that increases violence by 2%.” Sure. Why not. Absolute chaos. Absolute peak. xeneizero says 9/10
