A game I've loved for over 20 years I got my first taste of this series back in '99, from a cereal box, on a Windows 95 machine! Hard to believe a game this good once came free with breakfast. Nearly three decades later, I'm still playing. There's not much more to say about a timeless classic like this. You build pixel-art parks from nothing and grow them into thriving, profitable empires. You can design rickety old-school wooden coasters straight out of the era of questionable amusement-park safety, or you can build absolute death-trap monstrosities and watch what happens to your guests. You can treat them to the best day of their lives, or torment them. Your call. What keeps me coming back is how much there is to actually do. Laying out paths, landscaping, hiring staff, setting prices, engineering coasters that don't launch people into a lake — it all matters, and it all stays satisfying hundreds of hours in. The game rewards experimentation in a way few management sims still do. It has its rough edges. The controls take some getting used to, and building a genuinely good coaster is harder than it looks. But none of that has stopped me from sinking countless hours into it over the years. If you're a fan of the genre, this is a must-have. If you're not, try it anyway for the nostalgia — or just to see how deep a "simple" park builder can go. 10/10. I've been playing this series for at least 20 years, and I still recommend it without hesitation.
The best game that has ever been made. Why does this game still hold up? Why is it still demanding my attention after 27 years? Because its simple, and that's all it needs to be. There was a time when games were just meant to be fun. No long cut scenes, no character building, no craft systems, and no microtransactions. Sometimes games today get caught up so much in graphics or realism, they forget why we play games in the first place. For comfort, for fun, and for peace. That's why RCT still matters today and is still played by gamers all over the world. Do you know why RCT 3 wasn't as good or why no other Roller coaster sim has been able to touch it since? Because sometimes more is less, and sometimes less is more. RCT is perfect because of how simple it is, and that's why I will never get tired of it.
It is RCT1 and RCT2 + expansions bundled together with fixes to make gameplay more approachable on todays standards. Widescreen support is top notch upgrade when you can actually take a look and control of your park on literally wider perspective. Mixing all the content together makes it sure that there is insane amount of gameplay for hundreds and hundreds of hours. Doubt that the interest will last that long, but it is assured that you are not done in one or two sessions with this game! Is it absolutely perfect remaster then? It's totally a superior to OGs, but some small tweaks are still harder to do than should. For example sometimes it's too complicated to put benches or trash canisters on specific place, especially if there is numerous overlaping paths and I have couple of times messed my gameplay when accidently destroying wrong pathway and dropping its passers into oblivion. I have learned to save before tweaking with these details. Also there is one nasty thing with Go-Karts, which I don't recall playing other versions, because they seem to get stuck all the time destroying the mood of my visitors and me both. The drivers don't wear helmets like they used to either - a small, but significant detail, that made it look way cooler. Not sure am I doing something wrong, but It feels like this specifc thrill ride has gotten downgrade and it is a huge shame, for being one of my favourite ones. However, this Classic edition should be enough to welcome old and new fans alike to series! It may not be graphically as astounding as Planet Coaster, but if you like to have better control and understanding of economics and business RCT is not gonna let you down. Moreover, this used to run on potato years back and so it does today!
