The best thing about this game is its reviews, I found a review from this older completionist named “Dude Time”. He might be the most complexly interesting person I have ever had the pleasure to meet through steam. This guy decides if a game is good or bad mostly by how easy it is to get the achievements to 100%. I am genuinely perplexed, NOT IN A BAD WAY. I reached out to this man through steam and had a very insightful discussion with him about why he plays these 70 cent games that give you achievements just for booting them up. As we spoke I learnt more about this achievement based ideology than I thought I ever would. You see I originally understood the purpose of video games as a means of telling a narrative through a different medium, however this video game mindset contrasted that opinion. Introducing an entirely different ideology, one rooted in seeing video games or at least their achievement completion as almost a trophy, a reword that trumps over the message you receive from playing the game, a reword that until now I preserved as a byproduct of completing the game itself. It made me think deeper about why we as humans play video games or rather just games in general. The first game ever created was The Royal Game of Ur. It is over 6000 years old and was played for thousands of years. It is a 2 player board game “race game” in which you and your opponent are competing to get to the end the fastest. not to play out the game but to achieve victory. So maybe this achievement grabbing game ideology is the purest as it feeds our human desire to “show off”. I now believe I understand this mindset as something deeper than just having achievements. These people are playing a greater, more fulfilling game named “Who can get the most achievement humanly possible”. But just because a game fulfils our desires more does it make it good? The only metaphor that I can think of to best explain this ideology is if a person buys and reads a bunch of books solely to put them on their shelf for all to see that they're well read, or maybe even smart. This person might not have even retained the root message of the story but they see themselves as winners because they have this physical item on their shelf to show everyone that they achieved something. When in reality all it shows is how much time someone has used up in their life doing this one thing. Dude Time went on to explain that his completionist days were behind him going further to describe what happens when you get to his age and lose the time to play video games as frequently, due to kids or work. I could sense this melancholy feeling though the way he wrote to me. Almost like he was experiencing a form of withdrawal led on by his lack of free time to play. Maybe this is due to his matured understanding of the world that no matter how hard you try it is truly impossible to complete life to 100% to do everything and achieve all the achievements. He went on to explain that he only hops on steam now to play TF2 a game that he does not have every achievement in, curious. I can only see this as a sign of the evolution of his former completionist ideology? His last achievement in the game he admits to solely play “nowadays" was in 2023 so what other reason does this completionist still play? This is when I arrived at my final consensus and what I see as being the one true meaning of video games and even games in general a meaning that was in front of me the entire time. The true meaning of games is to escape… To escape from whatever in your life burdens you and possibly the deeper realisation I have found in my research to write this game review is that humans greatest reason for escape is humanity. civilization is what burdens us humans the most. After all, the oldest game comes from earth's first civilization and maybe without civilization we lose the reason to play any game. When you are no longer forced to think about how you will survive the winter or gather enough food you are forced to look deeper into the reason you exist, this is why we have religion this is why we have distractions or escapes like games. So all and all I rate RUSSIA BATTLE GROUNDS 10/10 it perfectly encapsulates the reason we play games. With its loud music and inconsistent textures it is a complete sensory overload that forces me to stop thinking about whatever burdens me personally. Thank you Dude Time. -fEATHERS (i am not a troll these are my genuine thoughts)
