A special kind of Game for s special kind of person. Easy to play but difficult to master in one playthrough so be ready for the learning curve. The problem is that you won't know there is one until pirates and missions decide to give you a weggie for not poneying up the lunch money. Negitives out of the way, Sailing Era is a great game. It's well thought out, plays well, and can really eat away at the clock if you let it. The stories are decent, if a little bland but your not really buying this game for compelling story. Buy it because you want to sail around the world. Buy it if you have time to burn and love simulation games. Buy it for when your in-between games and don't know what to play. Do not buy this game hoping to be suprised, it's exactly what it looks like. This is not a high stakes or a fast paced game. Sailing Era is fun but like the Sims or other sim games it can get stale after a few setbacks. It's a classic case of different strokes for different folks

Quite the hidden gem this game is. Its very addicting once you get into it, I will admit it took me some time to get involved due to other games but once I gave it a full chance it won me over. Lots of quality things in it from the art styles to land battles. Pros: - Amazing art styles - Very optimized - Sail around the world - Treasure, shipwrecks to exploring new areas - Crafting system, want a new boat? Craft a random one with random mats - Land exploration - Find new heroes all over and level them up, equip them how you want aswell - Very addicting - Upgrade the ports you want, where you want - Combat is fun once you get the hang of it - Lots more Cons: - Can't create your own charc/mercs This game is worth full price, but if not consider getting it on-sale, I have not gotten the DLC as of yet, as I would like to fully beat the base game before trying that on a new campaign. There is lots of playable starts around the world, I do wish you could create your own and pick where you want to start, would be awesome but I understand. Try it out, refund if not your style. 8.5/10

Long overdue endorsement of an awesome gem of a game! It's super pleasant game that's an improvement on the Sid Meier's Pirates! formula, with actual storyline (different for each main character), tons of unique characters and events. Great variety of activities to pursue: from trading, trade guild expansion, collecting ships to exploration, inland expeditions and all shades of ship combat, like pirate hunting or becoming one. You can assemble quite a crew of varied characters - each with their own events and ministories - that you can develop RPG style and assign as crew or officers on the ships. I have not encountered any bugs that I can remember; the translation sometimes does not convey the nuances of events (mostly Asia region) but overall it's decent. DLC can be safely bought after you got a good taste of the game.

Really nice game. If played a lot of games about pirates/trading - may not look that fresh. Would give a chance with new playthrough, but there are not much non-discovered quests left
