SCUM isn’t your typical survival game—it’s more like being stranded in the woods with a hangover, no pants, and a deep-seated fear of public restrooms. You start with basically nothing, and by “nothing,” I mean you’re literally running around in your tighty-whities wondering why you signed up for this masochistic camping trip from hell. The first thing you'll notice? This game cares more about your character’s bowel movements than your real-life doctor does. You ever play a game where you have to stop looting a dead body because your guy’s gotta drop a deuce in the middle of the forest? Welcome to SCUM. You’ll be checking your bladder and colon like it’s your new hobby. Forget tactical reloads—this is tactical toilet time. Then there’s the puppets. These freaks don’t just want to nibble on you; they want to tear you apart like you’re the last piece of toilet paper in a gas station bathroom. One minute you’re enjoying a peaceful stroll through the woods, thinking, “Hey, maybe I’ll finally find some pants,” and the next, you’re running for your life, screaming like a little kid who’s just seen their first horror movie. You better have a weapon, and no, your fists won’t cut it—unless you like being a human chew toy. And just when you think you’re getting the hang of it, some random player will show up and shove a spear up your backside just for fun. Trust issues? Oh, you’ll have them after this. The PvP in SCUM is like Tinder with guns—swipe right and hope they don’t ghost you with a bullet to the head. But honestly, that’s what makes SCUM beautiful in its own twisted, depraved way. You’re not just surviving; you’re constantly questioning why you didn’t just go play something chill, like Animal Crossing. But nah, you’re here, knee-deep in puppet guts and somehow having the time of your life while simultaneously wishing for a therapist. All in all, if you’re into hardcore survival, love tracking your urine output, and enjoy being screwed over by both NPCs and other players, then SCUM is your chaotic dream come true. Just don’t forget to pull your pants up before the puppets pull them down.

The new zombie spawns ruined the game for me. I imagine it was for performance reasons but watching 10 zombies spawn in a small circle when you enter a new area was unimmersive. Edit: The developer responded to me with straight transparency and it shows me that they care about their customer which makes me incredibly optimistic about the future of this game. The game itself is very incredible - I do just PVE with my friends and when they had changed the zombie spawns it felt like the difficulty/immersion of the game was greatly reduced. I have no idea what struggles a dev team goes through and I imagine they had their valid reasons. Hopefully it can get resolved because for me personally I would put another 100+ hours in once they figure it out. Best, Mitch

I play single player, so that's what I'm reviewing. You can modify pretty much every aspect of your server, once you do that it's a pretty fun game. Performance is pretty good, graphics are good, gun play is satisfying & looting is fun once you crank up the loot %. If this looks like a game you'd be into but don't want to deal with cheaters, griefers, and toxic people the SP mode is a good time.

SCUM is an incredibly detailed Survival/PVP game. You can get completely immersed and play how you want to. Overall I absolutely love this game. If you like survival, and want realism you should try it out. Pros: [*]Huge world that looks fantastic with different biomes. The devs regularly update the map with new points of interest. [*]Sim level detail of your character; you needs to eat, drink, poo. The way you eat and move affects your body composition. You are affected by the different areas of the map. For example; the cold and snow in the mountains, to the radiation zone, and the hot climate of the south. [*]Accurate ballistics; bullets have realistic trajectory and damage. [*]Base building; you can either fortify existing buildings or build your own base. [*]Unparalleled detail of items in the world; Your NVG's need batteries (which will drain). The vehicles are modular and can be armored up and customized. [*]Regular dev updates with good community engagement; in the time I've played there have been half a dozen big updates, from adding modular base building and vehicles, to introducing more realistic humans with clothing that fits the characters, with lots of new weapons. Cons: [*]Cheaters; the best way to play is to go on player run servers with good admins. Not ideal, and because the game is a slow burn. It requires a lot of patience and time. Which makes cheating even worse because you can lose a lot of stuff. [*]The game is so detailed that I think the devs are now having to spend a disproportionate amount of time optimizing. Some things were removed for performance that made the world feel more alive. I question whether it's that important to have a car that you can almost strip bare vs keeping the old hunting system (birds etc). Suggestions: [*]More varied weather system. Having more than 20 minutes of rain. Storms that last hours would be a lot of fun, fog/mist etc. Plus different weather like sleet, and strong wind. [*]Trains that travel on the existing tracks as a means to get around the world like GTA 5. [*] Zombies that can be snuck up on and killed silently. [*]Reduce the complexity of the modular vehicles. With so many vehicles, finding a wheel for a laika vs a ranger vs a VW is something that takes far too long. [*]More realistic physics for the vehicles, especially boats.

Game is a lot of fun, surprisingly very realistic and the group play enhances the experience. However, the puppets, while dangerous to fight at times, I dislike the fact that they are created out of thin air. They obviously spawn before the eye and that kills sneaking and strategic thinking, as I always like to scout and calculate my chances before breaking into a town, but the current spawning mechanism kills that. Also, the horde is quite really random and annoying at times. One moment everything is clear, and the next you're overwhelmed with about 20 puppet on you, freshly created out of thin air. I hope the devs pay attention to this, other than that, I highly recommend playing the game.
