I have a few hours in ARK: Survival Evolved. And somehow, despite the bugs, glitches, crashes, lost dinos, questionable physics, and all the other ridiculous things this game has put me through, I don't regret a single one of them. Honestly, some of the brokenness almost became part of its charm. ARK wasn't always a great game in the traditional sense. Sometimes it barely worked. But it gave me something that very few games ever have: an experience I don't think I'll ever be able to recreate. I made friends here. I spent thousands of hours building, taming, exploring, fighting, breeding dinos, starting over, losing everything, and doing it all again. Some of the most fun I have ever had playing a video game happened in ARK. There was something special about the earlier days of this game, when the servers were full and the community was thriving. You'd log in and there were people everywhere. Tribes you knew. Names you recognized. Allies, enemies, neighbors, and friends. The world felt alive. And that's probably what I miss the most. Coming back now feels strangely lonely. Servers that used to be full are quiet. Bases are gone. The people you spent hundreds or thousands of hours playing beside logged off one day, sometimes three years ago, and simply never logged back in. None of us knew which login would be the last one. That's a weird feeling. I know ARK: Survival Ascended exists, but I don't think I'll ever move over to it. Maybe it's better in some ways. Maybe it's prettier. But I don't think it could ever be my ARK. You can't recreate the people, the community, the ridiculous moments, or that particular period of your life just by rebuilding the same maps with better graphics. I wish things had gone differently for Survival Evolved. I wish development had continued. I wish the community had stayed strong. I wish I could log back in and find those servers alive again. Sure, I could play single player. But ARK was never really about playing alone for me. It was about the people I met along the way and the absolutely ridiculous adventures we had together. So yes, I recommend ARK: Survival Evolved. Not because it's polished. God knows it isn't. Not because it never frustrated me. It absolutely did. I recommend it because after more than 4,000 hours, I can look back and genuinely say that some of my favorite memories in gaming happened here. Skyrim will probably always have to share the throne, but ARK earned its place beside it. I don't think I'll ever find another game quite like this one. And honestly? That's okay. Some games don't need to last forever to become unforgettable.
Where do I start? ARK has been a huge part of my life and is the whole reason I got into PC gaming in the first place, the game itself is super fun and you will not find any other survival game quite like this one, It hits all the nerdy niches, Dinosaurs, Prehistoric Life, Guns, Castles, Ancient Egypt, Kaiju's, Aliens, Dragons, Fantasy creatures. All that being said, the dev team, or publisher, or both, are so extremely greedy, they killed this game and sold its "free" UE5 upgrade as its own game, lied and said they "rebuilt the code from the ground up" but ported all of the glitches, bugs, and straight up poor coding from this one into the new one, shut down all the servers for this version ending a decades worth of peoples lives they poured into this crazy game. So why do I recommend? Because this game, this game will change your life, play Single-Player or host a unofficial server and hop on with your buds, I promise wither you play 1 hour or 10,000, you will make memories that will last a lifetime. Yeah the graphics aren't as good as the "free" 59,99 Ascended version, but if you have a older rig, it should run "ok" the story is how it was originally written without all the woke and political incorrect (how they managed to do both at the same time is beyond me) ret-cons from the animated series. You don't even need all the DLC because, unlike Ascended if you don't purchase the DLCs you can still use the items and tames on free modded maps (I recommend Ragnarök or Fjordur for that) PS. DONT BUY AQUATICIA ITS LITTERLY TRASH MADE BY SNAIL GAMES POSSIABLY WITH AI
I sacrificed all my friends to tame a trex. I was so happy I finally got one. However, moments later he got ganked by an alpha raptor. I cried. I then recruited a team of 20, 20 feet long alligators to absolutely maul the alpha raptor. That revenge gave me more dopamine then beating my ♥♥♥♥ does. 10/10 game.
