Unbiased review: Never heard about this game, never played this game before. Saw a new game from the Nightdive and bought it. PROPS: Probably the biggest sized world I saw in an adventure game. Can't understand how they packed so much in a game from 1999. This game will test your memory, you need to remember where u been, where to go, all the possible roads, turns, doors etc. By the end of the game I had an awesome feeling that I finally started to understand the world, how to move in this world and how to get through. Unique fantasy world with a lot of gore. Game that will never be made by today's standards. CONS: I started and finished the game on Horror difficulty, and it was painful, not because it was hard, but because the game is built on a backtracking, you will backtrack a LOT, and when you change ares, all enemies respawn for whatever reason, on horror difficulty you waste more than half of your time dealing with respawining enemies that you can't dodge. If you planning to play the game, pick normal difficulty. I just wasted a lot of time and there were no reward (fun) playing on hard difficulty. Had no bugs, was stuck one time in a texture, that's it. Thank you Nightdive.

This is an absolute masterpiece of a game, but not without its flaws (due to its age). Imagine the tense atmosphere while exploring an abandoned underground subway in "Down Street Station" London, encountering the modern reincarnation of Jack the Ripper, only to find his private quarters deep inside the tunnels full with dead bodies hanging inside his closets. Then finding his diary... Imagine the disturbing atmosphere exploring an abondoned apartment building in "Mordant Street, Queens NY" equipped with a flashlight, only to be greeted by the "Home Improvement Killer" who has a faible of skinning his victims and "decorating" the apartments with them. Before that, you learn that he had a very disturbing relationship with his mother... Imagine an old voodoo prophecy unfolding right before you, as you go deeper into the asylum in deadside and explore ancient temples to find new power. The sheer insanity in areas like the "experimentation rooms" or the "cathedral of pain" is enough to pull you right inside this twisted world. Shadow Man features an immense amount of creativity in all of its elements and assets: the enemies, characters, endbosses, areas, weapons and story. All of that genius design and absolutely incredible atmosphere is accompanied by one of the darkest and most creative videogame soundtracks ever by Tim Haywood. The original Shadow Man was already a masterpiece, but this remaster improves on the original in almost every possible way with added content, more areas, improved audio quality, much better graphics, more enemies and endbosses, more items and added music tracks. This remaster is definitely a love letter from the devs. Only downsides from a modern perspective: - no handholding (but the remaster has improvements to help you progress) - as you gain new powers, the game expects you to revisit previous locations - getting lost is rather easy for new players. In case of getting lost, visit Jaunty or Netty in game - some areas are a bit too big for my taste (summer camp) where exploration may become a bit tedious - some of the deepest lore is hidden inside case files or a few short books - due to its semi-no-linear design, it is possible to encounter a boss or area while being too weak to continue. Going back and gain more power is always a possibility though - some platforming sections can be annoying Embrace the pain of old videogame design and you will find an absolute gem here! For we are many.

This what a true Remaster should be. Not just updating the graphics but bringing back cut stuff that the original game developers couldn't fit in before. This is the one true expansion that everyone should seek & know no bounds when discovering the very foundation, in & out. There are many dangers at your proposal. Tread lightly. And it is also worth the price, you will not be bored.

Old-school masochist style game-play. Get lost for days even with a guide. Also it's way too long, especially after the added cut-content.

The most sinister and evil atmosphere in a game ever made. Even the sound of the gun seems like the lament of an otherworldly soul!! A classic ahead of its time!! The devs make a great job in this remaster with new levels, better controls, lights, darkest and scariest enemys. But what this game really deserves is a remake.
