This is a really fun game and it has a lot going for it, however one thing I feel would be amazing would be a coop mode of some sort, where you gather your armies against other AI controlled enemies. Really cool game though!

Great game, way more difficult than I thought it was going to be. Definitely some frustrating levels that made me quit more times than I would have liked but overall great experience!

The game is a bit hard to pin down as good or bad. The feeling of being a little roman guy leading your little roman soldiers is quite fun, and you get some basic commands to utilize some basic strategy. The game is however riddled with design choices that drag it down. If you are fighting near a flag, whomever owns that flag can spawn infinite troops (provided they can afford it) which means you need to fight away from flags not controlled by you OR only attack flags when the enemy has been drained of resources due to constant fighting. However, the later campaign missions (which I consider the main part of the game) has the AI earn more money than you do, so even if they own a flag that for you would produce 45 gold a minute, for them it might be 68 or 90 gold due to just having a higher base income rate. Combine this with the fact that many of the late campaign maps only allows you to recruit troops on certain flags (unless you only own "no recruitment" flags in which case it is allowed to recruit on them) this means that you often need to run across the entire map to recruit new soldiers after the latest clash, and while you are doing that the AI can run around capturing flags making it all feel like an unwinnable game of whack-a-mole. The scenarios in the campaign have some variety, but I think they could have been designed to feel more unique. Late campaign missions you are basically forced to run around, capturing flags to earn some money and always moving to the next flag you can see because if you fight the enemy you will destroy your income and lose the game. In one of the missions you start in a defensive mission, with a bonus goal of defending an NPC called Cleopatra, you have two big walls on the sides and two enemy armies attacking from both directions. To beat this mission I had to give up the defensive position, move out and capture one of the armies starting flags to slowly beat them, and then slowly grind the other army down after recapturing my starting flags. The respawn time for the enemy leaders also means that even if you beat their army they will often be able to respawn before you can capture any flags, which just makes the problem even worse. My main problem is that due to the way the game is designed, one of the main ways you have to think strategically is not "Where should I place my troops? Can I ambush the enemy and get rid of them early?" or any other kind of fun little tactical decision, but rather you need to think "What kind of AI profile is assigned to what army, and how can I use that to my advantage?" To be clear I find the game enjoyable and I do recommend it, but I think it is important to know what kind of game it is priot to buying it since it is a lite strategy game, with a decent focus on tactics and resource management. If you like rome, or roman history, I am sure you can enjoy the kinda larpy nature of the game. If you have a somewhat bad PC I would also recommend the game since it is not very demanding in terms of graphics or CPU usage. I also think that the game could be quite fun in multiplayer, which I admit I have not tried out as of yet. Also the two levels that feature catapults were actually just designed by satan, ♥♥♥♥ those two levels ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Fantastic game. Challenging, frustrating, yet strategic and engaging. I enjoyed my time playing this. Most players might play this for about an hour or two, but not me. I finished the whole campaign. I have one word for this: C I N E M A
