It's the best skateboarding game to-date, at least gameplay wise (not art-wise or social). I play it solo, because the lacking social features (text chat and unmoderated voice chat) make multiplayer unengaging to me. Pros: - Fun skateboarding mechanics and physics. Improvements over Skate 3 overall - Well built missions with a difficulty curve - 40 hours worth of (solo) content for sure. - Seasonal content with new locations, including the tutorial island brought to full glory, and lately the stadium Cons: - Cartoony art style sucks: Flat look and saturated colors looks like Roblox or Fortnite, which sucks. Please go back to the Skate 3 art style, which was much better. - Lacking social features: No text chat. Voice chat is monitored 1984-style for "moderation" purposes, so I won't use it. The lack of social features makes the game feel dead. Other players are just glorified name tags whose lack of interactivity makes the world feel even lonelier. - Soundtrack is weird, with a lot of pop songs and no fixed genre or direction. Skate 3 and Tony Hawk's series have more thematically fitting soundtracks. - The location is uninspired and gets boring fast: A generic San Francisco-style city, well built but gets monotonous fast. Would be nice to have surreal or weird creative locations and terrain variety, similarly to Skate 3 or the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series. - Lacking interactivity with NPCs: They always look the same. Skate 3 had grandmas and drunk dudes, and we could smack them with the skateboard. While it's good that NPCs can't ruin our spots, the lack of interactivity makes me feel like a ghost. - Type A, Type B body types when it should be gender. That stuff is rather cumbersome when making my character. - Fashion options are weird and unappealing to me. Every brand is lame. Whoever is in charge of making cosmetics should reconsider careers. I don't need to dress as a huge shoe. A nice smoking suit would be a lot better (edit: A smoking suit was added, but the majority of the new cosmetics are also lame). In short, your AI friend is the only companion you truly have. That shouldn't be the case in a multiplayer game. Feedback: - Stop monitoring voice chat, or create an opt-in unmoderated or less moderated text/voice chat. - Make more content for the game, especially cool locations. - Do less brand stuff - because they all literally look the same. Focus on different clothes such as military attire, which would be great, or perhaps a business suit (edit: Thank you for delivering this one).
Gameplay fun overall. Transitions and vert still need polish. Story parts are insufferable. I just mute VO all together Music turns on when you start an event. Even if you don't have music playing. This is very annoying Cash shop feels bad. It's not just over priced. It's manipulative and scummy. Cosmetics are lacking in variety and quality. Clothes fit weird on your character
took 93 hours but i finally have all achievements, id give it a score of 6/10 if you like freeskating its amazing the big downside is the things its lacking that made skate, skate. from deathraces to celebrity skating missions, the previous 3 games were incredible. also BRING BACK COACH FRANK
As someone who HASN'T played a Skate game before (because I've never owned an Xbox) I've gotta say...The reviews are a bit harsh in my opinion. I've been THOROUGHLY enjoying this game so far! Yeah, it's got a few subtle wrinkles to iron out, but I like playing this better than SkaterXL. It feels similar to the THPS remakes, but chilled out and not too fast-paced. You can relax into this one and just kill a couple hours easy. So...IMO, take the ultra-critical reviews with a grain of salt.
