Note : I wasn’t able to test out the online feature due to having no friends that also play the game. (Friends can send “mail” to one another, similar to Animal Crossing.) Farming sim + town builder (Animal Crossing vibes) Two kitties escape the clutches of corporate life in the city to settle down on the famous Snacko Island to begin life anew. … Except that the island is cursed, and miasma chased most of the inhabitants away, so now a bunch of run-down buildings need to be cleared away and the mystery of the curse has to be solved. Information • Best source for help with the game: [url=https://snacko.wiki.gg]Official Snacko Wiki • No gender, no pronouns. Kitty doesn’t need gender. • In character customization, player can change fur color, eye color, tail color, paw pad color, and give name. • Game autosaves when kitty goes to bed, but there is also manual save. • Days end at midnight. Kitty has comfy box to sleep in if they’re away from home. • Gameplay involves: crafting, cooking, fishing, farming, animal caretaking, mining, logging, building, questing, exploring, collecting, combat, and gift giving/socializing. • Cultural Center collects: fish, furniture, paintings, and food items. • The fishing mini-game is fun! Not frustrating or too difficult. The fish bites, player hits right trigger, then a line appears where the fish is and in order to reel it in, the player needs to match up with that line as much as possible while holding down RT. The fish will, of course, wiggle around a bit. • Combat is easy. Food heals. Kitty gets a sword, magic staff, and eventually, a bow/arrows. Shouldn’t be a problem for casual gamers. • Fast travel to the farm house is available immediately and from any location. Much later, the portal recipe is unlocked and portals can be placed anywhere the player chooses. • The game can be played entirely with a controller, but a few actions are easier and quicker if done with the mouse. Praises • The character art is cute. Such adorable kitties! And other animals. Love all the cat puns as well. Also, the kitty curls up all cutely when they go to sleep even though they’re on a human bed. • The game has a good sense of humor. I love how Nobu is a Scottish Fold, so he has a Scottish accent; so silly and cute. • The player can write notes about NPCs in the journal, which is unusual compared to other games. I find it interesting, at least. • The player gets to build, like, everything. Not just what is on your farm, but what is in the town. Clear away all the dilapidated junk to get a lot of free building materials, then build nice, new stuff. • The player gets to recruit merchants and skilled people that are needed on the island and build their business building or home. • Crafting/building/cooking from storage. So convenient. • There’s always something to do, as the town square has a quest board and there are always new quests on it. Quests usually increase NPC affection, as well as give helpful items as rewards. • The player gets rewards from achievements, as all the achievements are in the journal. When one pops, go to the journal and claim the reward. • Pinball mini-game! This is probably subjective af, but I used to love that pinball game that was free with Windows PCs back in the day, and there’s a mini-game that invokes nostalgia for that. I was filled with joy when I found it in the game. That mini-game also gives prizes, so that’s neat. • It’s fun to ride around in a kart. It can be customized. I put cute cat ears on mine. When upgraded, it can hover high into the sky, practically like flying. Complaints • The map is inconsistent with keeping track of where residents are. • Game soft-locked twice while fishing. Got into the habit of saving frequently while fishing. • I did have to submit a few bug reports for a few quests, but those quests were optional, didn’t impede game progression, and didn’t have to do with achievements. • Cocoa beans are the currency in the game, which is just … absurd since those are deadly to cats and most of the other animals in the game. I feel like they could’ve been more clever with that. • I hate timed anything in games. There are timed shrine challenges. Not fun. Anxiety-inducing. The story isn’t anything amazing; it’s pretty basic, but the characters are adorable and occasionally say amusing things. The gameplay is damn fun, so overall, I was quite satisfied with the game. I definitely recommend it to fans of the genre and those who like cats.

This game is awesome! I’m a veteran cozy gamer and I feel like I’m kind of hard to impress but there was a lot about Snacko that genuinely blew me away. Snacko’s best qualities: -Vibes: Visuals are amazing, design is very cozy. You can build/design some really cute stuff and it feels nice to just run around and hang out. I love that you can see the sky and the clouds are nice. There are fireflies in the evenings and lighting items look very nice. -The mines: TBH I usually dread the mines in farm sims. Most are not very innovative and I find them to be a total slog. Snacko’s take on the mines is genuinely so fresh and fun. They’re not top down which is a huge plus in my book. There are fun things to find (like logs! Journal entry things like you’d find in like, Mass Effect), you can get a drill, you can generate a new mine if you’re tired of the one you’ve been exploring. There’s this remnant loom thing too which is a fun and sort of addicting mechanic. I love the mines in Snacko. -Many small random QoL things: You can sleep anywhere. You can get a car. Travel is smooth and fast. Most crafting pulls from universal storage, so you don’t have to move things around too much. You can also auto deposit items to existing stacks in a storage container just by walking up to it and pressing a button. You can save anywhere. Tilled land stays tilled unless you plant grass over it. -Customization: While there is a little room for improvement as far as character customization (this is me saying i would love clothing options in this game), the farm/island design elements were really on point for me. The build mode is great and I find it easy to use. It’s pretty flexible in where you can place things, everything rotates (even diagonally). You can also craft furniture items directly from the build menu as long as you have the resources somewhere in storage. This is huge and makes the build mode feel much more relaxing and immersive since I don’t have to back out of the menu and run to a crafting station when I decide I want to place something. The build/crafting menus have a search bar. I think a lot of the craft able stuff in this game looks pretty appealing, too. -Characters: The characters in this game are bursting with personality. I do wish they had a little more dialogue but they have friendship events that are pretty fun. The portraits are very cute too. I love my angry son Nobu Jr. Also, the game is definitely geared toward teens/adults, which is something I really appreciate in farm sims. There are some areas that I think feel a little unpolished. For example, one of the festivals was pretty broken for me and there are supposed to be tourists walking around your island daily but I only saw them for the first few days. These things feel really minor in comparison to everything I love about Snacko. It’s worth mentioning that it is a grind so many not appeal to those who aren’t into that. I’ve seen some criticism of general quest progression and how it’s unclear how to unlock certain things. Like one quest might mention a crafting item that you can’t unlock until further down another quest line. One of the devs posted a really nice spoiler-free unlock guide which I think really helps for this. I’ve started to sort of sit back and just focus on completing quests I can and I’m finding that I sort of eventually find/unlock everything, it just might take a while. Something I really like about Snacko (but might understandably be off putting to some) is that it’s slow. You can’t blow through most of the story in a day and sometimes I play for a few hours and don’t make a ton of progress. Some things take a while to unlock. For example, it takes a while to be able to expand your house. I like this. It’s the perfect game for when you want to dive in and spend dozens of hours in a game. It’s a nice, slow grind. I really hope more people find this game, as it almost flew under my radar and I think it’s one of the best recent farm sims I’ve played. It feels like a breath of fresh air in a niche that I very much love.

Okay so I haven't been able to play much due to my controller being super difficult BUT OH MY GOD GUYS. The dev helped me out so extremely much, figured out what was wrong AND CHANGED THE CODE AND ADDED A SETTING just so it would work for me!!! So nice, so considerate, an amazing person who deserves all the awards this game has gotten. I will of course update my review once I've played more! So far: I love the writing, its funny and not cringe like some games can be when trying too hard to be funny. Music is cozy!! I haven't heard much yet though >w< The mixture of media is so cool!!! The gamecube-like environment, the pixel art for characters, and the drawn art for how they look like!! (THEY'RE SO CUTE) It reminds me so much of Animal Crossing Forest despite me being too young to play that at the time, it's a very similar vibe. I look forward to getting further and updating this review to tell you more how great this game is ♡

Seems like a really cute game but 3h in I experienced a bug that swapped an NPC's dialogue with that of another NPC I haven't met yet. This essentially ended my playthrough, as I mistakenly slept through the night to see if that fixed it. I had not saved the game prior to the autosave overwrite. Submitted a bug report, hope they fix it. EDIT: Devs saw my bug report and fixed it < 12 hrs after reported. The game really is adorable, and clearly the team making it care a great deal. Thank you!!
