Pretty fun roguelike, would give 7/10. If you like action roguelikes then it would be a definite buy at 50% off.

Be aware: this game does not seem to have any meta progression between runs, and boy, runs are HARD. I've seen others say this and I wish it as well: shame we can't give mid reviews, we have to say thumbs up or thumbs down... this is more in the middle for me. I can't say that I dislike this game, per se, but it is disheartening to bump into an enemy in the first 10 seconds of your run, have that bump knock you into a wall, and then bump into them again as your tiny i-frame window ends and find yourself at half-health already with very little, usually nothing, in way of healing until the end of the floor you've just begun. I also find that the starting gun is pithy, making the katana class infinitely preferable right off the bat. It's an older game, and I love this developer (mostly for Boneraiser Minions), so I'm still going to give a positive review because this game never promised any meta progression, I just sort of assumed it had to have some when I immediately felt how easy I am to kill and how hard the enemies can be to take out. Despite these issues, the dev is so good at games that I ended up pushing through and playing some more and having one very satisfying run with a lot of items and modulations to the gameplay that made it feel fresh and fun. I think that if I had some way to make myself stronger and harder to kill, even if the progression was slow, I'd feel a lot better about coming back to this game. As is, I may never do so, but I got it on sale so I surely got my money's worth at the very least. If you like games like this, and aren't expecting meta-progression, this is a damn good example of the "explore caves, break walls, collect stuff, get items to change your run, it's hard though" kind of game. The style here is also 10/10, that first death animation got me... wow. Also, when I launched it, the screen was all messed up and I had to tab out, tab in to even see where the menu was to change the settings to borderless window. It was also sort of messed up when I launched it again, and had to set it to borderless window again because the window had a border (but was still set to borderless, I just set it to something else and then back to borderless... also while I'm making small complaints, all the buttons are set to Playstation style but I'm using a first-party Xbox controller. Not a major issue, just an odd one).

v good, wish this was caiys' best performing game so we could get a beefier sequel that adds to the craziness. More passives and bosses especially. but for the amount of content this game has it is easily worth the price. I enjoy it more than Spelunky. solid 8/10 minimum and I love the art style like always.

What's to say about this game that hasn't already been said? It's a masterpiece and imo the best game from Caiys roguelikes. After playing it for a long time and unlocking all achievements, I can say this is my favorite game. I hope they make another platformer in the future.
