Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords Why did I wait 21 years to replay this game? Having recently finished a replay of Knights of the Old Republic—a game whose entire plot I easily remembered even before replaying—I decided to give The Sith Lords another go. I played and beat it when it came out back in 2004, but I was 15 at the time, and honestly, I don’t think I liked it as much as the first one, nor did I really remember what it was about. My perspective has certainly changed with age. There are mainly two reasons for this. 1) The game plays much better now. The game has a history of being buggy and unfinished. However, with the 2015 Steam release, a lot of modernizations were made, and the game can actually run at modern resolutions and without crashing all the time—unlike the first game, which didn’t seem to get the same treatment. I still had to cap the frame rate to 75 in the Nvidia Control Panel to fix a lot of issues, but that took care of most of it. To further improve and “finish” the game, there’s an incredible community mod—the Sith Lords Restored Content Mod—that adds a lot of the cut content back in and fixes a ton of bugs. I played through the entire game without a single crash—can’t say that for the first game. Install this mod through the Steam Workshop (and no other mods), and you’re good to go. 2) The story. This is the other major reason my perspective has changed. The story completely flew over my head as a 15-year-old non-native English speaker. But the philosophies, debates, and deep storytelling in this game are insane. I can see why Obsidian Entertainment’s older games are so beloved—the writing is absolutely next level. The way the Force is discussed, stripped apart, and scrutinized is unlike anything else in Star Wars media. What even is good or bad, light or dark? The Jedi are fallible, and so are the Sith. This isn’t a simple good-versus-evil story—there’s so much more going on here, and I could appreciate it far more at age 36 than I ever could at 15. While I was absolutely floored by the storytelling and worldbuilding, the pacing—especially in the first 10 or so hours—was rough. It takes a long time to get going, to figure out who you are, and to set the truly interesting plotlines in motion. I think it took me nearly 20 hours to get a lightsaber, which felt like far too long to go without one. Gameplay-wise, it plays much like KotOR: a revised 3rd-edition D&D ruleset with some tweaks since the first game. Most notably, there are more feats and Force powers, which is great and adds depth to customizing your character and the roughly 10 companions you bring along on your journey. If you liked how the first game played, you’ll like the second. Speaking of the first game, I’m glad I replayed KotOR before KotOR II, as Revan’s journey, the Mandalorian Wars, the Jedi Civil War, and more still serve as a major backdrop for the story. This game expands on all of that, posing even more questions—and unfortunately, by the end, not really answering what happens to either Revan or this game’s protagonist. Their fates are continued in other media, namely the MMO The Old Republic, which I have no interest in playing. I’m really looking forward to Fate of the Republic and hope it finally provides some more answers. I’m still floored by the narrative of this game—there is no better storytelling in Star Wars media. If you like Star Wars, you owe it to yourself to play these two games. Absolutely recommended: 9/10. Not a 10/10 due to aging, reliance on mods, and the lack of closure for the main characters if you’re not willing to play an MMO or read on wookiepedia.

I have over 800 hours on this game with personal disk copies. This game is worth FULL price and once ye get the restored content mod it adds so much more. It is limited, VERY VERY limited. But I first played it on my 7th bday and I love it ever since. This game inspired me at 20 yrs old to write a KOTOR timeline fan story which I have always wanted to publish and even make a movei of for over 10 years now. Its the only childhood dream I have left and I want to achieve it. Let me know who you're fav character is down below or tell me a fav memory from the game. I want to hear it and I'd love to bring the KOTOR fan base together as we are small. My Fav Character is Visas Marr.

For the first time, I don't even know what to say. But I feel I must say something. So here it goes... "It's a MASTERPIECE! Plain and simple!" Though the game itself is not as plain and simple as it may seem, considering the Star Wars universe. It's full of shadows and undertones. You can't be so sure of anyone or anything, contrary to KOTOR One, where the stakes and pretty much everything were already known right from the beginning. And I could write a huge sheet about this game... I WILL NOT! This game can speak for itself if you dare to give it a try yourself. The only question is... Will you dare?! In case you do, don't forget to include [url=https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=485537937]Restored Content . It's mandatory at this point. And may the Force be with you!
