Great game, very cozy. Great house building. characters are a little flat and you should definitely make it possible to marry older people! as a 34 year old lady, I don't wanna marry an 18 yearold kid who lives with their mom

I’m still very early into the game, but I’m genuinely enjoying my time on Starsand Island so far. Compared to the demo, the performance feels way better. I’m playing on max settings and haven’t had any performance issues at all. It runs smooth for me. That said, I do have a pretty strong PC, so I can’t speak for older systems or Steam Deck users. The world is beautiful and relaxing and the characters are super charming. The guys are very cute, which is obviously important information (。•̀ᴗ-)✧ I wouldn’t say the game feels fully polished yet, but I also haven’t encountered any game breaking bugs so far. The only thing I’m not really loving is the DLC carriage. It feels like it has no real physics. Sometimes I get stuck or the carriage kind of floats or flies awkwardly behind the horse. It’s not ruining the experience, just a little immersion breaking. Overall though, I’m having a really cozy and positive first impression and I’m excited to see where it goes ( ˘͈ ᵕ ˘͈ ) Aggie ~ Soraphina ݁ ˖Ი𐑼⋆

13 hrs into the game. Decided to write a review because my game somewhat crashed due to this update (controller stopped working when scrolling so had to exit for update and hopefully its fixed when i log back in). Anywho I play a lot of cozy sims/farm/rpgs, with typically around 100 hours in if you see my history. I'll sum up the pros and cons here. Pros: 1) Pretty graphics 2) Use v sync to stop tearing on screen 3) Linked storage chests (however, it would be nice not to have to click each one to deposit, 1 for full deposit would be nice quality of life). 4) characters are very good looking (guys and girls) 5) Huge world with again very nice graphics 6) Nice outfit choices, definitely not plain or boring typical stuff, nice character design and unlocking of cosmetics overall 7) Like the choice of professions - 5 nice variety 8) Nice fast travel 'modes' skateboard, rollerblades (the best), other cars, boats 9) Farming is NOT annoying, you water once and the rabbits eat the weeds - nice 10) Game with combat is always a plus 11) Characters gifting me things is a nice change 12) tool/stamina thing is decent, more balanced the deeper you go. Current Cons: 1) Like others have said - although the game starts off saying theres a community drive to improve the island... there isn't really one. What I mean is everything feels optional and theres nothing to 'repair' aside from a lamp post. Yeah you can add a dock.. but like it didnt feel that impactful. In comparison "Out and About" game I played within the last couple months does way more of a focused drive to repair and improve the town. Just somewhat misleading from the intro. 2) The house upgrade/land purchase ability is unbalanced. I should get to expand more quickly. I am 13 hours in and I have yet to be able to buy any land and I have unlocked every profession... seems its a combo of having done enough board quests combined with rank from what others said online but this formula doesnt work (case and point - myself). 3) Crops Profit Not Good - most things sell for way too little compared to the general cost of things. I was only able to progress because the npcs gave me enough money from giving me fully cooked items I could sell or money from completing the quests. Some recipes are cheap at 100 gil a pop but most 2nd tier go from 1.7-2.5k a piece. Nothing you make really sells for that much and even fishing...well you gotta keep moving to get to fishing spots to get fish because each spot has a small number of fishes with big gaps inbetween and they sell from 30-100ish gil a piece so again theres a huge difference. Outfits and other stuff are thousands upon thousands and the port thing you get to unlock to supposedly fill some items...well you gotta huff it there to the beach everyday and the easy stuff you want to get rid of doesnt sell for much. The tougher to get stuff you want to keep because its used in recipes...so theres not anything you are selling for just money that has no other purpose. 4) Dungeon Loading Screen - takes too long 5) NPC Hearts - along with pets its so difficult to level. Plus there should be a better reward for level 1 friendship - they gave you stuff before you got it and then once you are level 1 its like they give you less stuff. I want interaction options - hug, cool handshake, eventually a kiss hopefully - some date scenes or options' 6) some npcs need some polish - guy at the docks - marion or whatever his name is, not all that interesting and as he isn't a mentor... its impossible to get enough heart points to level. Same with video game dude. Helping his sister with the paint quest should have given you influence points with him too 7) Farm Animals - specifically the rabbits as thats all I got - they keep getting stuck so there is something wonky with them 8) Not enough Calendar events and days unbalanced due to that. I am on day like 11....and I have played 13 hours. I should have hit some festivals and other stuff by now. I have never had to force sleep through to get to town festivals or events in any other game so there needs to be more going on or shorter days or ability to get quests done sooner and not as many requirements for each one 9) The abilities you buy with starpoints could be beefed up a bit more...especially as it takes a lot of time and effort to unlock each level and then get the points themselves General improvement options / nice to have (could be later in game idk): 1) Less tourists or more rewarding ones or ability to sell things to them at a huge markup, maybe a stall for yourself. Most dont give you anything and just take up space in town making it harder to find the people that matter to you. Their convos are boring too. 2) Fast Travel points - the map is huge and I am regularly having to traverse 500 miles or whatever it is to places like my house and the beach. 3) NPCs need to get out of their house earlier coz you can't go in until 3 hearts which take forever to get and some npcs don't leave until 10am+ and they just stand there in their house (maybe thats a bug idk) Overall I like the game. Its fun as in and I thought it was worth the price considering other games that are released in this category are not as 'pretty', have less abilities/professions and skills, and are overall less polished. This game beats those and has a lot of content / items. Remember stardew and others have been worked on for years / decades at this point. I think this game is worth it, I am looking forward to more depth to the romancable characters and interactions which I hope happen.

Do I love it? No. Do I hate it? No. Will I probably enjoy mindlessly putzing away at it? Sure. Is it worth the price tag? ABSOLUTELY NOT!! Do not buy this at full price ever (at least not now in its current state). So why the positive review? Let me explain. There are def some positives here. The world is beautiful. The graphics are lovely and it runs relatively smoothly on the deck, with some little hiccups here and there. I’m enjoying the gameplay and characters. From what I’ve gathered so far, there is no real progressing story (which is disappointing) but instead you pursue different jobs that have branching quest lines and different NPC interactions. So you have stuff like farming, crafting, animal rearing, fishing etc. You craft materials and decorate your home. You forge relationships. Nothing new or innovative here, ladies and gentlemen. And this is where it gets dicey for me. Because it’s just that. Nothing new for that really hefty price tag (for a game that isn’t even complete and may never be). I feel like this game is a cross between Heartopia while trying to be in line with the “My Time” series. I’m also getting some Palia vibes with the equally insane pricing on cosmetic DLC (not worth it, do not buy it). The layout of the game and menus also feels and looks very gacha system to me, without being gacha. There are a ton of subcategories to open for different objectives offering different rewards and points. It is honestly very overwhelming. Why can’t these all be in one spot, under one menu tab? I’m not even joking, you open the menu screen and (I just counted) there are 17 different tabs to pick from. It’s utter ridiculousness!! So while I can see myself having fun with this game because it is relaxing, cute and I’m intrigued to see where it goes… there are similar games out there that do everything that this game does but better, with them either being FREE (Palia, Heartopia) to being already complete and offering more content for the price tag (My Time at Portia or Sandrock). I won’t give it a negative review because I like the basic stuff it offers. But I am very hesitant to recommend it because the content offered so far doesn’t fit with the price tag. Steam seriously needs a neutral rating because that is exactly what this game deserves. Update: still enjoying the gameplay (leveling up the jobs) but the lack of story makes this game feel VERY directionless at the moment. You essentially are just going around doing random quests and collecting rewards. That is it. Needs more substance to justify the pricetag. The world feels devoid of any heart and soul. This is essentially a refined version of Heartopia with controller support.

Starsand is one of those rare cases for me where the game actually lived up to my excitement level going into it. So often I’ll get hyped for an upcoming game, only to be disappointed by the product when it comes out. But Starsand is absolutely amazing so far. I’m loving it. It’s by no means perfect or flawless, but no early access game is. But to be totally honest, I haven’t really experienced many bugs or issues so far. This is absolutely not true for everyone, and I’ve watched/read several reviews where people were experiencing weird things. However, my own experience so far has been really smooth. Brevity has never been my thing, so brace yourself for my long list of pros and cons. THINGS I LIKE • Save anytime! You can also rollback to any of the previous 7 days if needed. • The visuals are stunning. This is honestly the perfect aesthetic for me. Love the character art, the clothing, the hair, the world. And the animals are freakin’ adorable. • There’s a lot of time and consideration put into QoL features in this game. Saving anytime in a farm game is HUGE. There’s also a very reasonable amount of bag space to start with. You can jump and swim. The various different modes of transportation, from skateboards to cars, allow you to move quickly right from the beginning, and sprinting doesn’t cost stamina. You can track quests or locations, and a cute little star path will guide you there. When looking into your storage chests, you can easily skip to the next chest without having to actually walk away and approach it. Etc etc and so on. There’s just so many things that seem small, but you don’t see them often in farming games and so they feel significant. • You can hold the interact buttons for tools to charge them and create stronger swings. When you upgrade your pickaxe enough, you can strike whole areas, not just individual stones. • There’s a fresh take on mining that’s not just another cave. Don’t get me wrong, caves are fine too, but in Starsand you actually venture into a forest area. It’s got checkpoints and you can freely move about the areas once they’re unlocked. In addition to lots of different ores and gems, you can find a lot of forageables, fish, and bugs. There’s a little platforming and some other simple puzzle elements. • I love that NPCs have intro cut scenes. So far the NPCs are pretty simple, but considering it’s EA, that’s fine. • Clean, intuitive UI and so far using the controller is flawless. • I’ve heard some comments that the mounts and vehicles are clunky, but honestly they’ve worked perfectly for me so far. Maybe it helps that I’m on controller? Either way, I love zooming around on my roller skates. The game lets you try vehicles and mounts for free early on, and they’re fun too. But there is something so nostalgic and unique about roller skates. • I like the job system. It’s similar to Fantasy Life where you pick an area of focus and you’re given a lot of quests that eventually lead to leveling up, which unlocks new things. There’s also overlap, so you’ll probably be doing all the jobs instead of actually picking and choosing. Each job has a central NPC as an expert. I love games that give a lot of exploration and freedom but also allow me to tune back into quests when I feel like I need more focus. • In addition to quests that grant you rewards, there are a lot of different milestones and goals that allow you to unlock even more content. THINGS I’M NEUTRAL ON • I know a lot of people think the combat is too simple, and they’re right, it’s very easy. Monsters are rare, and there’s a few boss battles but they’re not hard at all. But none of this bothers me. I can find complex combat in my non-cozy games, so I don’t need every game to have a really detailed fighting system. I also wouldn’t be upset if they added more to the combat later. Hence neutral. • There’s a really extensive building system, but I’ve put very little effort into figuring it out so far since its early game. • The crafting is very complex, and reminds me a lot of My Time at Sandrock. I don’t love or hate it, but it’s worth knowing if crafting isn’t your thing. THINGS I DON’T LIKE (I would like to say that I fully recognize the game is in EA and still developing, so none of these are heavy criticisms. They’re just additional feedback.) • I don’t like when certain interactions forcibly shift the camera around. Like when you fish or when you pick up a new item for the first time, your camera is jerked into a certain position. • You have to be really close to items on the ground in order to pick them up. Not a huge deal, but it would be better if the radius was increased a little. • There’s a LOT of pop-in. I don’t care about it as much in the environment, but the random tourists around town don’t show up until you’re really close to them. • Rocks respawning on your land can respawn directly on top of farm plots. A large one spawned across four plots, and I wasn’t able to clear it without losing my crops, because I couldn’t select it. • I don’t like the way crafting feed for livestock works. Every animal needs an individual type of feed. This is tedious on its own, but what makes it even more annoying is that several feeds actually require the same ingredients. If chicken feed and duck feed both need the same ingredients, why can’t I just craft “poultry feed” that feeds both? • The road around the island feels empty, because no other NPCs are driving around. There was however a child running down the center which felt… odd. • It’s already been said, but the NPCs need more diversity.
