What used to be a free game in the shape of Steamworld Dig is now a tactical rpg. Having played the game on experienced from start to finish you can really appreciate the challenge the game brings forth and while fun, some of the missions do have some issues. For example, when it comes to the randomization of maps and stuff, you may bring a certain team and then the game blocks you with impossible shots, blocked off paths to destroy important enemies or objects and then you have to reset the mission to adapt and can get penalized with your currency, still I can count with one hand the amount of times that happened. Amazing characters, fun weapons to experiment with and for certain it's a very colorful game, never allowing itself to grow dull and uninteresting wether it's visually or in character design. A very fun game which allows for more playing hours than one thought there would be.
Simplicity is a Feature Does this game have as deep tactical combat as X-COM? No! And it doesn't need to! You get just enough options to make things interesting with randomly generated arenas (ship interiors) in which to fight. You can customize your squad, deck them out with better weapons, and make them wear fancy hats. If you catch this game on sale and you JUST want to have fun without needing a Wiki open in another window... without needing to memorize what's BEST IN SLOT or what the optimized builds are... then this is a wonderful game!
This game is pure vibe, holds you from start to finish by interesting characters, great designs, beautiful backgrounds and music. I think any game must have that "fun" feeling in his core for clicking your escapism, no matter genre aspect, thats just have to be there. Steamworld heist is one of those gems, you just launching game and your inner child goes for a pirate adventure in space
