So far so good. Really like how the story connects to events that happened in the previous game Avernum: Escape from the Pit. The tileset / environment looks a little better and more colorful than the previous game. Great RPG if you can tolerate the oldschool graphics. Only complaint so far is the health bars are difficult to read due to the colours used.
This was an excellent sequel that cleverly reused the bones of the original map and player's knowledge to add new depth to the world while still feeling fresh. The new spell additions were good for more flavor and adding extra methods of exploration. The new playable races are also fun even if some of the world's reactions to you are relatively minor. I especially loved how the impact of the Empire's war on Avernum felt and how dire the situation was throughout the game.
These games are huge. up to 80 hours. pretty decent customization on the ole scrote pokers. Not an insane amount of reading like planescape, but enough to build a world. The remakes have some minor flaws (not being able to close doors, can't bash doors - only pick locks - ) but it gives an old game a new shine. It still holds up.
