Stickman Trenches, developed and published by Big Play Games, is a minimalist real-time strategy experience that distills the chaos of World War I trench warfare into an approachable and fast-paced format. It’s a game that trades grand military realism for a stylized, stickman aesthetic while retaining the tactical fundamentals of defending, advancing, and surviving across a war-torn battlefield. What sets it apart from traditional strategy games is its simplicity—there are no sprawling tech trees or complex resource systems to master. Instead, the game focuses entirely on the moment-to-moment tension of holding the line, reinforcing positions, and pushing across no man’s land under relentless enemy fire. Its straightforward design makes it easy for players of all skill levels to jump in, yet beneath the cartoon visuals lies a surprisingly demanding layer of timing and resource management. The core structure of Stickman Trenches revolves around building and upgrading defensive lines while managing waves of enemy attacks. You deploy soldiers from your base, directing them to occupy trenches that serve as both shelter and staging points. Each trench can be upgraded to provide better protection or faster unit regeneration, giving players a steady sense of progression during battle. The push-and-pull dynamic of trench warfare defines the game’s rhythm: overextend your offense and you risk being wiped out, but stay too defensive and the enemy’s artillery and advancing troops will slowly erode your line. Success depends on finding the right balance between aggression and caution, all while managing limited resources to deploy new units, enhance defenses, or launch artillery strikes at key moments. Gameplay feels immediately accessible. Soldiers automatically engage enemies once deployed, allowing players to focus more on overall strategy than micromanagement. Units come in a variety of types, including riflemen, flamethrowers, machine gunners, and support troops, each with strengths suited for specific battlefield roles. Artillery and air support add another tactical layer, offering powerful but costly ways to shift momentum in your favor. The system rewards quick adaptation—knowing when to reinforce a collapsing flank or when to push forward with a decisive offensive can mean the difference between victory and defeat. Despite its simplicity, the combat retains a satisfying sense of rhythm and danger, as explosions tear through the muddy terrain and lines of stickman soldiers crumble under heavy fire. Visually, Stickman Trenches takes a minimalist approach, relying on clear silhouettes and stylized environments to keep the action readable. The stick-figure design may seem basic at first, but it works remarkably well for the game’s scale. The lack of detailed textures ensures that even in chaotic battles, you can easily distinguish your units, enemy forces, and projectiles. Explosions and effects are crisp and dramatic enough to give impact to each exchange, and the muted, earthy color palette reinforces the bleak atmosphere of trench warfare without losing the game’s lighthearted charm. The art direction strikes a balance between grim subject matter and playful presentation, giving the game a distinct personality that sets it apart from more serious war-themed titles. The sound design complements this aesthetic with a mixture of ambient battlefield noise, sharp weapon effects, and understated background music. Gunfire pops and artillery roars with enough weight to sell the intensity of combat, though the overall audio presentation remains functional rather than cinematic. There’s little in the way of voice acting or orchestral flair, but the simplicity fits the tone and scale of the game. Every explosion, whistle, and distant gunshot contributes to an atmosphere that feels alive without overwhelming the senses. In terms of content, Stickman Trenches offers two main modes: standard battles against AI opponents and an endless survival mode where players test how long they can hold their defenses against increasingly overwhelming waves. The standard mode provides structured, goal-oriented gameplay, while the survival mode offers high replay value and a greater test of endurance and resource management. Both modes benefit from quick match times, making the game ideal for short play sessions. However, the limited variety of maps and unit types means that repetition can set in after several hours. Without major updates or additional content, the core loop can start to feel predictable despite its inherent fun. Community feedback reflects this duality. Many players praise Stickman Trenches for its straightforward design, satisfying pacing, and accessible learning curve. It delivers instant gratification without requiring deep investment, and its affordable price point makes it an appealing pick for casual strategy fans. Yet others note that the simplicity eventually becomes a drawback. The absence of advanced tactical options or deeper upgrade systems leaves little room for experimentation once you’ve mastered the basics. The artificial intelligence, while competent in early encounters, tends to rely on brute force rather than adaptive strategy, leading to matches that can feel repetitive. Players have also pointed out inconsistencies with artillery accuracy and a lack of control options like retreating or regrouping, which can make some engagements feel frustratingly one-sided. Despite its limitations, Stickman Trenches succeeds at what it sets out to do—it delivers a compact and engaging take on trench warfare that’s easy to play, visually distinct, and mechanically solid. It captures the essence of strategic decision-making without overcomplicating the experience, offering the kind of immediate fun that’s increasingly rare in modern strategy titles. The minimalist visuals and tight gameplay loops make it a satisfying pick-up-and-play experience, especially for those who enjoy quick tactical skirmishes rather than sprawling campaigns. In the end, Stickman Trenches is a small but well-crafted indie strategy game that knows its strengths and stays true to them. It’s not trying to compete with large-scale RTS giants but rather to carve out its own niche by emphasizing fast, tactical combat and simple yet effective mechanics. While it could benefit from more content, deeper customization, and smarter AI, its charm lies in its focused design and honest execution. For players seeking a quick, entertaining, and slightly chaotic interpretation of trench warfare wrapped in a stick-figure style, Stickman Trenches offers plenty of explosive satisfaction in short bursts. The game could really use a speed-up button—1.5x, 2x, or even 3x would be great. It occasionally crashes, but that’s probably an issue with my computer. The gameplay is challenging and decently difficult. A good way to pass the time. 4 out of 5 stars. Please add a speed-up button!

This game would be a pretty good idea if it was in those websites with the variety of games you can click on for free. However, the difficulty setting is severely unbalanced. if you choose a difficulty higher than easy, the enemy would start to spawn a lot of enemies in a short period of time right before you can even spawn in ur first troop. choose easy, then the AI will act like a toddler and the real challenge is making the game hard.
