Lovecraftian dread meets cosmic storytelling in a promising indie gem. If you're a fan of cosmic horror, deep lore, and immersive atmosphere, Stygian: Outer Gods is absolutely worth your attention. Even in its early access state, this game showcases a remarkable ability to draw players into a bleak and mysterious world inspired by Lovecraftian mythology. The unsettling sound design, cryptic narrative, and shadowy environments combine to deliver a chilling and captivating experience. The combat system feels deliberately paced, reinforcing the game's thematic weight and tension, while the exploration encourages thoughtful decision-making. It's clear the developers have poured a lot of passion into the world-building, and there's a real sense of impending doom that lingers throughout. Of course, being early access, there are a few rough edges—occasional bugs and some unbalanced mechanics—but they’re forgivable in the face of such ambition. The direction this game is heading is exciting, and I’m eager to see how it evolves with future updates. If you want to experience the game for yourself or just enjoy the ride without any interruptions, I’ve created a no commentary full game walkthrough so you can take in the atmosphere and story in its purest form: 👉 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tO6XNZ3a9kE Whether you're a diehard fan of the genre or a newcomer to cosmic horror, Stygian: Outer Gods is shaping up to be a unique and unforgettable experience. Keep your lantern close—you’ll need it.

One of my first blind buys in a long time, and what a delight. The atmosphere is excellent, in large part due to the sound design so major kudos are due there, and the movement hardly ever feels clunky so navigating the environment always has the necessary weight to truly capitalize on the immersion said atmosphere cultivates. The marriage of coastal town with winter landscape was carried off wonderfully and added to the bereft feeling one gets combing through the remains of Kingsport. I won't say much about the town's inhabitants (as I'm of the opinion that a game is best experienced as unaware of its particulars as possible) but I'm very glad Stygian is offering a slow burn up to the real heavy hitters of Lovecraftian horror. And even if those heavy hitters never show? The presentation is still an original one. Especially with respect to the event that kicks off the chaos before the start of the game and the details of which we slowly uncover throughout our exploration. Incidentally the writing conveying some of those details is a little too cryptic and not in the sense that I didn't understand it but in the sense that it's cryptic for the sake of being cryptic, obvious in its intent and thus breaks immersion. Maybe that's just me since I look out for that in my own writing. As others have pointed out, the survival horror elements are there and real. Bullet economy is important, though healing items I would say are a little too prevalent and the sanity mechanic is negated by a couple "on tap" healing sources. If the developers care to read this, I'd suggest changing the sanity mechanic to be more punishing or prolonging segments where we lose sanity without being able to backtrack to said healing sources. I still want to feel rewarded for prep and caution but even on Hard I was smooth sailing through the cosmic horror, calm as a Hindu cow. Combat honestly isn't half bad. It's still a little clunky, as any horror immersive sim is, but not near so bad as some other members of its genre cohort. You're rewarded for planning on how to approach a combat encounter. Fleeing is a real option but dangerous as the threat of being pursued is real. I never felt like the threat was hamfistedly scripted in this way. I felt like I was dropped into a situation, so were the enemies, and the chips will fall where they may. And let me just say, I'm very glad this element of the game isn't a vestigial appendage to the larger game. Multiple weapons, multiple ammo types, with more on the way? Hell yeah. I also enjoyed the stats and abilities as well as how they're retrieved/acquired. I won't touch on this too much for the same reason I won't touch too much on the particulars of other parts of the game, but I feel like some stats/abilities blow others out of the water. I realize that this is likely/might be due to the fact the game is in early access but I felt punished for selecting some of the more "unique" options as opposed to the standard RPG options (Lockpicking for instance). All in all, a more than excellent start with a wealth of content already rolled out. Can't wait for the next update. P.S. - To those reviewing the game poorly simply because you can't run it, either upgrade your machine from its potato status or consider that an EA game ought not to be judged (at the absolute outset of EA) on its optimization. At that point you're not even reviewing the game but rather your own wallet and misrepresenting the actual quality of the game.

This is Lovecraftian horror at its absolute peak. While many games can make you feel like an unstoppable force of nature, wielding weapons like a modern-day Rambo, few are capable of drawing you into the perspective of something far more fragile and vulnerable. This game doesn't just put you in the shoes of a hero; it forces you to live inside the mind of a terrified, unraveling soul - one who feels every sliver of sanity slipping away with each step, each encounter with an unknowable, cosmic terror. I am definitely looking forward for more EA updates and a Full Release.

10 sickles in the rib out of 10. General Impression The game is in early access but it's pretty polished for what it is now. There was one bug where witches could hit me through the wall, but I'm pretty sure it will be fixed soon. Other than that I really liked this game and played 8.6 hours straight in one play session with a joy. The combat is pretty simple, but the animations are good and make combat feel more real and natural, and your attacks deplete stamina pretty quickly. It makes you think and strategize and decide if its even worth it to get into a fight with that enemy right now, especially given that when you find guns there won't be a lot of bullets for them. The guns have to be used in most desperate situations. Sometimes you can throw boxes and bottles at your enemies to avoid them hitting you and injure them. You got to respect the timing of your attacks too because with the right timing you can interrupt enemies attacks by striking first in a right moment, or blocking their attacks. The story has intriguing elements, and the style of speech is fancy for the appropriate characters - cryptic, literate, expressive. Difficulty I play in normal difficulty and just 3 hits from an enemy can reduce your full health to zero. Again, makes you think how you get involved in a fight, or if its better to run. I'm a hardcore player, so I'm looking forward to play it in hardest difficulty when I finish the normal one - the game has all the elements for those who want to have a challenge or want to strategize a lot. RPG Elements Another element I like about it is that it's set in a semi-open world and has some RPG elements, and based on the skills you choose the gameplay will be different, but there are no classes so you can combine elements and make your own build. Atmosphere & Graphics And, of course, the atmosphere and graphics. The game is beautiful, its setting is interesting, and you can see that devs put a lot of effort and care into that. It's a small detail that many might not notice, but there are realistic ripples in water and even that little thing increases the immersion and satisfaction of playing it. Animations are good and feel natural, player animations are smooth and realistic. There is a slight clumsiness to the animations of player and it makes sense and makes me like it more - we aren't playing a supersoldier, it's impossible to do everything with perfect precision. As of enemies, when you attack them their stance changes and you can really see it when they are severely injured, which is a great and natural way to visually tell how close you are to defeating them.

Do you like the trailers and game description? Good! Thats exactly what you are going to get, if you buy Stygian Outer Gods. As someone who played pretty much every Lovecraftian game i feel like at home! A promising title that borrows stealth elements from games like Gloomwood and Bethesda classic Dark corners of the earth ( relased in 2006) and its fantastic sanity mechanic......You feel like your character starts to go nuts, hearing sinister voices the more your sanity deteriorate. TLDR: Amazing deal with the current price tag BUT.....Mind this is the Eaaaaaarly access, so have patience and lets see if Misterial Games delivers.
