Summum Aeterna (SA) is an excellent side-scrolling, action-oriented RPG. It is remarkably replayable with high stage and weapon randomization and customization. SA features four distinctive weapon types, though each has a variety of base abilities, levels and quality tiers. There is also a great socketing system giving you much to experiment with. Everything has a use and there is no junk equipment or abilities. SA’s graphics are clear and crisp and similar in style to Bloodstained or GBA/DS-era Castlevania. The game runs well and is perfectly playable on the deck. The gameplay is fun and involves runs, earn income and spend said income on persistent upgrades and town unlockables to enhance subsequent play throughs. The toughest part is deciding where to spend the currency. The stage creation and fusion is quite unique and allows you to customize, lengthen and increase the risk and reward of your run. Though there are a lot of systems to learn, it is not overly complex and the game does a nice job of slowly introducing new aspects. Most importantly, you can save and quit during runs! There are many similar games, but this tops popular competitors like rogue legacy or Isaac.

Didn't enjoy the demo of this game, but bought the game on sale because I enjoyed Aeterna Noctis and wanted to give it a chance. There's a TON of content in this game. I love it. I'm 20 hrs in and haven't unlocked or seen but maybe 15% of the content. Combat and traversal is tight and engaging(it handles just like Aeterna Noctis.) The only cons I can think of for the game would be that the bats and one hit flying enemies always run inside of walls & you have to bait them out by running away. Kind of annoying. Other than that, good game and great studio. Looking forward to Aeterna Lucis

Fun take on roguelike platforming. Definitely has some translation issues and was slow to get rolling (when starting just died over and over and over and restart time is a little drawn out). Once you start leveling up skills and weapons and whatnot, it gets way more fun. I love the depth and, while not for everyone, I've enjoyed the snarky tone so far. For fans of: dead cells, rogue legacy.

This runs well on the steam deck and i recommend changing steam input to use d pad as joystick and set right trackpad to be a single button bound to dpad down. This roguelite feels like an improved and fleshed out rogue legacy. it isnt very enjoyable at first but as you get stronger it becomes more fun in an almost exponential way. good stuff.

Really fun game. Can be a bit challenging, especially in the beginning. The first hour of gameplay I was very very hesitant if I had made a good purchase or not, and I was admittedly struggling. I could see there was a lot of meat on the bones but couldn't access much of it. (There are about six different meta currencies- that really could and should be cut down a bit imo) After a few hours though the game really opens up and you have tons and tons of variation and customization to just about every aspect of your gameplay. LOTS of upgrade menus. Different weapons (Swords, Scythes, Guns, Magic) then tons of weapons within each category (i.e. "Venom Sword" "Executors Sword" "Master Sword" "Healing Scythe" "Quad-Barrel Revolver" etc etc) You can upgrade the rarity AND the levels of each weapon individually with the meta currencies. You can also add gems to your weapons. There are blessings and curses you receive through your runs.... there is a lot. I think the game could do with just *a bit* more hand-holding as I think it might be really intimidating and overwhelming and just confusing for people who don't live and breath games like Dead Cells. Hardcore fans of the genre will probably hate me for saying that, but more people playing these games means more money for them to grow and improve and keep coming out with new games, so a few more tooltips in-game is a pretty easy trade-off for that. Hopefully devs will continue to adjust and improve the game through it's lifespan. Anyway, if you are a fan of the genre, or you think the trailer looks cool- check it out! It is fun and worth the time and money imo.
