This game has fun levels, new enemies and really really cool new powers and new weapons to play with. It doesn't have the charm and intentionality of the original game, which had handcrafted puzzle-like levels with purpose and direction. In MCD you just kinda kill everybody and try not to die. The meta ending that makes you wait an extremely long time is an asinine decision and all of the external stuff is annoying and frustrating and gets in the way, I understand that it's by design but it really harms the experience and does not enhance it at all when it prevents me from the playing the cool shooter and makes me do nothing for hours instead. I recommend this game with a big asterisk.
Phenomenal core mechanic that was utilized much better in the first game through better level design. As much as I love roguelikes, sometimes they sound better on paper than they do in practice, and Superhot: MCD is one of those cases. While the first game had every enemy placement and situation carefully handcrafted, the sequel has embraced more of a "random ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ go!" philosophy. Almost everything is randomly generated, from the maps to the enemies, which is frustrating for a game built around such an ultra-precise, puzzle-like mechanic. The levels also drag on for ages, with barely any sense of progression. You can make it all the way to the final map only to get cooked by some awful enemy spawns, forcing you to start the entire thing over. It ends up feeling less like overcoming a carefully designed challenge and more like hoping the RNG doesn't screw you. But it's still Superhot, so it's fun as hell. And the story, if you could call it that, takes a genuinely interesting direction toward the end, with some great mechanical twists to send the game out with a bang. I just wish the first game's level design had been carried over alongside its phenomenal core mechanic.
This game is a great continuation of the original, the gameplay is expanded upon in many ways, there are new enemies, weapons and the introduction of hacks and cores is a good addition (even though they vary in viability). The story is more straightforward than the first game but it's still mysterious and engaging. In terms of achievements they are very merciful in what you need to do (I got 9/14 in 98 minutes) so that's a plus. Overall this game is a great evolution of the first and I'd highly recommend it 8/10
