If you love "jank RPGs" BUY THIS GAME. What do I mean by "jank RPGs?" Well, if you have played Outward, Risen 1/2/3 or basically any Piranha Bytes game, then that is what I mean and you've played the jank. There is a certain charm in the "jank RPG" that isn't found in your traditional RPG. Here are a handful of the traditional jank qualities I love, and that you'll find in Savrog's Dream: - The graphics. It doesn't have that beautiful, bright, old-school cozy feel that is in Outward, but instead feels almost gritty like the Risen or Gothic games of old. There's textures that are little off with a lot of bland colors; edges (terrain, etc) that are pretty straight rather than natural; lighting that flickers inconsistently- but wait, before you think I mean this all in a bad way! All of it is done in a consistent, super polished way that makes it all just a part of its character and Savrog's "look." -The dialogue: much like your TJRPG (traditional jank RPG), the writing is intentionally vague and definitely has the eastern European vibe to it, like some stuff got lost in translation, but still (and AGAIN) it is done SO DAMN WELL. It genuinely is fun writing and dialogue so that the stories and characters you come across are interesting and you want to keep pushing the quests forward. - The combat and loot: the combat borders on impossible for about the middle 3rd of the game but then once you find something that works you will feel like a god! Then you will be brought back down to Earth, rinse and repeat! It's a lot of fun with tons of replayability because of the good/evil system that is inheritely linked to your build! (yes, your build will partially change how the story SHOULD unfold- chaos or order). The loot is almost as confusing as the combat at first in that you're just kind of thrown into things and everything feels like it hits for your entire life for about half the game. BUT there's so much pretty loot and they all feel like they do make a difference, so again, it's done pretty well (but I think it could use some work, to where loot feels more impactful). - The world map and amount of stuff to find is also done really well with tons of places to explore and plenty of level-gated areas to skirt the edges of and hope to explore deeper later, that it all feels sufficiently mysterious like any good TJRPG. Also, there's an expansion which I am definitely going to get because I want to see more of this weird world! To anyone who liked this, check out: Sands of Aura (this one is a bit nicer than all the rest except Outward but it has jank and is an all time fav; Outward (the pinnacle of the jank RPG); the upcoming Gothic Remake, or any old Piranha Bytes game (if you can stand the old graphics); and going even further back, Summoner from PS1. This will all satisfy your TJRPG fix if Savrog didn't do it for you.

One of the best games I've played in a very long while. I don't write many reviews because I'm too lazy, but this game deserves one. It reminds me of divine divinity, tunguska the visitation and a little bit of dungeon siege 2. There are many different mechanics in the game and while they are not overly deep, they are komplex enough to get you interessted. The world is dynamic and feels alive. A lot of times i visit villages or places I was already before, there is a new quest or npc which wasn't there before. There are "world news" which tells you what is going on in the world. For example: "A trader got ganked somewhere on the road between two places." You can go search for his cart, if you want to. Maybe you'll find something of value. The sound design is also pretty good, especially the music is amazing. I also like the class system. It's basically like Grim Dawn plus Elder Scrolls. You get points for levling and spend those on masteries like ranger or necromancer etc. That's the Grim Dawn part. Your skills lvl while using them. If you grab herbs and craft potions you'll get better at alchemy, for example. That's the Elder Scrolls part. There is an optional Ironman mode which I usually completly dislike, but in Svarog's Dream it's done pretty well. You are not the guy you play, rather than an immortal soul. So if you die, you get to pick one of three new chars. You only lose your traits but your lvl stays. If you're just mildly interessted in the game, just buy it, ok. I probably wrote more in this review, than my last 10 combined.

Great game with a lot of heart made by a small team. As an RPG it's about on the same scale as Fallout 1. The world is about the same size and although most of the quests are a bit shorter they are generally more dynamic and open ended. The dialogue is all very pithy and to the point, but like the quests it is also open ended and the choices make a difference. Svarog's Dream is designed to be played in ironman mode (which is how I played it) and it works well. I ended up dying twice in my playthrough, each time in a major boss battle, but I came really close to death many other times. The UI graphics are a little lackluster but the in-world graphics look great with the Diablo-like perspective. The real standout though is the music. It's so good. Which is kind of funny because as far as I can't tell none of the music is original to the game. But the tracks are either not recognizable from elsewhere, or if they ARE recognizable they are really famous classical pieces used for a dramatic effect that's actually boosted by the fact that you recognize the music. This game even plays Mozart's Lacrimosa at one point, and it's played with 100% seriousness and it works. The major con with this game is that the author is not a native English speaker and it shows. There are not a lot of outright errors in the text, but it just reads as unnatural and clunky in many places. I think a very small investment into hiring someone to clean up the text and make it more natural would pay off. On the other hand I actually love how pithy most of the dialogue is, maybe the author was unable to find a native English writer on fiverr who wouldn't rewrite all the dialogue into massive pointless paragraphs of slop, who knows?

It's lovely. I have a zoo that follows me around and beats the crap out of everything for me. By the time I raise my arms to do anything, mobs are all dead. I have dogs, deer, boar, bear, viper, skellys, fox, crab, and a bunny. I think the bunny is the real killer in the group. I know when the group goes tearing through those mobs, that bunny is underneath there bitin' toes. So besides my pet obsession, I'm also enjoying the lore and quests. The whole world has been created with exploration and story in mind, where there are not a ton of just random enemies. Most are tied to quests, or the dark of nighttime and certain areas. Definitely will be putting a lot more time into this, and it is a highly recommended gem.

A click-to-move ARPG akin to classics such as Path of Exile, except I simply like this better. The pros: Experimenting with your build is one of the main attractions of this game, and the devs made it fun and easy to do. You get so much variety from being able to combine whatever 2 classes you want, and some gear/weapons just feel satisfying to complement your build (or serve as its core). More pluses include fluid controls, a pretty good inventory and UI system, and likable music. The cons: The biggest gripe I had with this game was that the writing, although genuinely funny at times, came across as unpolished or amateurish, especially at the sentence and punctuation level -- which can sort of break your immersion from the game. You just don't feel like the person you are talking to is a powerful god when you notice that his dialogue reads like a hastily written reddit post, with multiple comma splices scattered throughout. Still, the English writing is fluent, and it's polished enough that there aren't any heinous typos or sentence gore. Other criticisms are few, such as occasional performance stutters in certain places, and how short the game is. (It took me about 30 - 35 hours to finish the main quest and all the side quests I could find, though this still gives you a good bang for your buck.) Overall rating: 9/10, a criminally underrated gem.
