System Shock 2 is definitely one of the games of all times. These are certainly words and they are part of a review. It was written by me, myself and I. We are many, and you are one. How can you hope to prevail against us? The good: >aged like fine wine >works well on Win11 >should run on pretty much any modern PC >doesn't need mods to be enjoyed like a modern game >has great atmosphere >allows for several different playstyles >makes conquering further levels feel rewarding >artistic design, especially the last two levels >music >1999 graphics (for the nostalgia) >dommy mommy AI waifu for those who consider GLaDOS too tame >the ending (like, seriously wtaf?) The bad: >1999 graphics (nostalgia aside, the 3D models look like shit) >relies on sudden enemy spawns too often >too generous in respawning mobs out of literally nowhere >can get unclear in its objectives in the second half >the Body of the Many level (looks great, plays like ass) >a scarcity of replicators with ammo in the second half The "I don't know" >can be save-scummed through >has abusable healing methods >ammo is almost always worth more than health >junk items are useless until they aren't Verdict: In space, people will hear you scream if you record it on an audio log. Should you do that? *dramatic pause* Nah... *shoots screen*

Similar to Deus Ex but on a spaceship. A lot better than I thought. Screenshots and videos don't do it justice. Many weapons and items. A variety of play styles are possible. It's very difficult in some places, even on easy, and required a walkthrough. A little too long for me at 20 hours but others might like that. Works on Windows 11 with full HD resolution supported. It came out in 1999 around the time Half Life did. HL somehow got better reviews than SS2 which surprises me because SS2 is clearly better.

This is legitimately one of the best games I've ever played. The story and the environment are intriguing and engaging, movement and combat feel fluid. The UI is intuitive. The controls are a bit different from the standardized FPS controls we mostly use now, such as using SHIFT instead of C or CTRL for crouching, so you might want to think of some rebinding, though the default key binds are reasonable enough to work with. There have been no crashes so far, though the game has frozen for a few seconds in three (?) separate occassions (but it recovered after that). I haven't had problems navigating the environment or following the quest objectives - the levels seem straightforward enough and some things are marked on the map, such as replicators (shops), upgrade stations and some quest objectives (if you don't know where to go, mouse over the map to see if there's some helpful text). Admittedly, I have a pretty good sense of direction, but I haven't gotten lost yet - everything is marked on the map and the game is not really designed to be confusing IMO. I've been a bit short on resources at some points, though things were never truly dire - admittedly I do play on Normal, so I assume there's more of a challenge on harder difficulties. This game is truly fantastic and you should definitely give it a chance! However I would advise to not try and be too fancy in your first playthrough. By all means experiment, but I'd suggest Standard Weapons and Hacking at the start (the Navy path). EDIT: I've finished the game now. The layout of the penultimate level was actually quite confusing (you lose access to the map after a few levels), though it wasn't very big. I think the final battle on that level might've been the hardest as well.
