I started gaming when I was like five years old, the first console I owned was one of the Atari systems, with graphics that had black and white graphics, with bars and balls representing the action, at the time it was glorious, then we graduated to the Nintendo Entertainment System, far greater graphics, sounds and gameplay then the old school Atari but I still wasn’t really hooked, UNTIL, the glorious day I got the original Sony Playstation, it was like a fire awoken inside of me and I wanted to do nothing but game, all hours of the day and night. This was also the time I discovered my love of J-RPG’s, starting with what I consider the grand daddy of all J-RPG’s Final Fantasy 7, the game was perfect in every way, I was completely hooked. For years I played every RPG I could get my hands on. That brings us to today, my love of RPG’s has diminished a bit but it’s still there, and I try to check out old school rpg’s from time to time. This time was The Chosen RPG. Story - The game starts with our Hero edge, wrapped in a dream about his missing father, upon waking up, Edge discovers some holy warriors are attacking his village trying to steal Excalibur so they can join Aurther on his quest to find the Holy Grail… Wait that didn’t happen at all, but if it did, it would have been “AWESOME” – The Miz Anyway, one thing leads to another and Edge finds himself on a journey, if you’ve ever played J-rpg’s before you already know what the journey is, he’s trying to find a way to save the world, possibly find his father and maybe bag some trim… Hey now, I did say Maybe Gameplay – The typical turn based RPG fare, Four basic options, attack, Special, Magic, Defend. The game has four party members, each has their own unique skills and magic. You fight random encounters as you wander around the map, collect currency, you can purchase items and equipment. The game has a level cap of 30. Pros Decent story all things considered Fun and somewhat challenging (occasionally) Easy 100%, Trading cards Cheap Price Cons Short (I’m thinking like 2 – 5 hours) Limited items, skills, equipment etc confusing map layout and limited directions Recommendation - The price is really affordable 1.99, if you like old school RPG’s this one might be worth a pick up. It’s a really bite sized adventure for less then you’ll pay for a cup of coffee. The short game can be appealing to some gamers. The fact it has trading cards, achievements adds +1 and easily a 100% game, the 1.99 price is exceptional. If you’re not a fan of j-rpg’s, then you might want to skip, the game doesn’t have enough content or good enough story to playthrough if you aren’t already a fan of that Genre.. Anyway, if you don’t already own the game go buy it now, if you do, maybe consider expanding that E-peen and get a super casual and easy to finish RPG

The Chosen RPG, developed by Little Big Lee and published by Senpai Industrial Studios, is a traditional, retro-inspired role-playing game that leans heavily on the conventions established by classic JRPGs. Built with a straightforward structure and familiar mechanics, it presents a story of destiny, conflict, and heroism without attempting to significantly deviate from the formula. It is a game that prioritizes accessibility and simplicity, offering a clear and easy-to-follow experience, but one that also struggles to distinguish itself in a genre defined by depth and innovation. The narrative follows Edge, a young protagonist whose life is abruptly changed by a series of events that thrust him into a larger conflict tied to an ancient prophecy. As he gathers companions and travels across different regions, the story unfolds through a sequence of predictable but functional plot developments. Themes of fate, loss, and responsibility are present, but they are explored in a familiar way, relying on well-established tropes rather than introducing new perspectives. The characters serve their roles effectively, contributing to the progression of the story, though they rarely evolve beyond their initial archetypes. Gameplay is built around a classic turn-based combat system that is easy to understand and requires little adjustment for players familiar with the genre. Battles are menu-driven, allowing players to select attacks, skills, and items for each party member. While the system functions smoothly, it lacks complexity, often encouraging repetitive strategies rather than thoughtful decision-making. Enemy encounters rarely demand adaptation, which can make combat feel routine over time. This simplicity extends to the broader gameplay loop, where exploration, combat, and story progression follow a linear and predictable pattern. Character progression offers a steady sense of growth, with level-ups unlocking new abilities and increasing overall effectiveness in combat. However, the system provides limited customization, with most development occurring automatically rather than through player choice. Equipment upgrades add some variation, but they do not significantly alter playstyle or strategy. As a result, progression feels consistent but not particularly engaging, as players have little opportunity to shape their characters in meaningful ways. The pacing of the game is one of its more balanced elements. It moves quickly through its story and mechanics, avoiding unnecessary complexity or extended downtime. This makes it approachable and easy to complete, but it also contributes to a lack of depth. The relatively short length and absence of substantial side content limit the sense of exploration and discovery, making the experience feel more like a guided journey than an open adventure. Visually, the game reflects its RPG Maker origins, with environments and character sprites that are functional but largely unremarkable. The use of standard assets gives the game a familiar look, but it also prevents it from developing a strong visual identity. While certain elements, such as character portraits or specific scenes, attempt to add personality, the overall presentation remains basic. The audio design follows a similar approach, providing background music and sound effects that support the gameplay without leaving a lasting impression. Despite these limitations, The Chosen RPG has a certain appeal for players who enjoy straightforward, no-frills RPG experiences. Its simplicity makes it accessible, and its adherence to familiar mechanics can evoke a sense of nostalgia for older titles. For those looking for a light, easy-to-follow adventure, it offers a functional experience that delivers on its core premise without unnecessary complication. Ultimately, The Chosen RPG is defined by its commitment to tradition. It does not aim to innovate or challenge the genre, instead offering a basic interpretation of classic RPG design. While this makes it approachable, it also limits its ability to stand out, as it lacks the depth, variety, and polish found in more ambitious titles. It is a game that serves its purpose but rarely goes beyond it, providing a modest experience that may appeal to a specific audience while leaving others wanting more. Rating: 6/10

A role-playing game that focuses on story, character development, and world exploration. The project offers an atmospheric experience with various gameplay options, but the pace and style may not be suitable for all players. Recommended for fans of this genre. I was really pleasantly surprised! 🎮 The gameplay is very well done — everything feels smooth, responsive, and the combat keeps you engaged. ⚔️ At its core, it’s a pretty standard RPG: character selection, leveling, quests. But you can tell it was made with love — there’s atmosphere, great music, and all those little details that make the world feel alive. 🌌 Overall, it’s classic RPG done right. Totally recommend it to all fans of the genre! 💫

The Chosen RPG isn’t a great game, but it’s not bad either—it sort of floats in that weird middle space. I didn’t care much for the enemy graphics, which look like stock art slapped into place, but the gameplay itself was actually okay. Classic turn-based combat, simple mechanics, and enough progression to keep you going for a couple hours. There’s a lot of reading—and unfortunately, no narration to help carry the story. That might turn some people off, especially since the plot is standard "chosen one saves the world" fare. Characters are pretty one-dimensional too, but the game doesn’t really pretend to be more than what it is. What it is, though, is a short little RPG Maker adventure that doesn’t overstay its welcome. For the price, you get a few hours of decent, nostalgic gameplay. Don’t expect polish or depth, but if you’re in the mood for something light and retro, it’s a passable distraction.
