at first i thought the schizophrenic main character was just a gimmick to rationalize the occult stuff or even a common "it was all just imagination" kind of ending. fortunately this game let both of them coexist, which added even more depth to the story. truly came for the detective narrative, stayed for the social commentary. 1000/10, changed me as a person, altered my brain chemicals.
really interesting yuri i love how we get to understand the main character throughout the story and the touch of mystery and cosmic horror makes it more enjoyable.. the artwork is really good especially the environmental/background art imo it captures the feeling of existential dread and despair very well whilst also emphasising character growth and hope. i replay my favourite scenes often. smth about it just very captivating to me
This was quite the pleasant surprise; I was not expecting to enjoy this as much as I did tbh. The beginning was a bit confusing, but the overarching mysteries and endearing relationships and characters pulled me through, and I'm glad they did. Ibuki is one of the more compelling female protagonists in visual novels that I've encountered so far; she's blunt, paranoid, single-minded, but also surprisingly passionate, open-minded, and even cute. I'm on the fence about the depiction of her schizophrenia. For instance, at times, it seemed more to be describing Borderline Personality Disorder... But ultimately, I think the game did make a decent try at depicting the negative parts of mental illness with compassion. The other characters were all quite endearing in their own right, and I appreciated the diversity of sapphic/lesbian relationships in this. What really pulls this ahead of a lot of other yuri VNs is its intriguing worldbuilding. There's so much more that could be explored, a whole universe of possibilities for Ibuki. By the end, I was invested in seeing where she would go from here. (What does her being the 'Beloved Child of the Mother of Humanity' fully entail?) The mysteries, though, were a bit disappointly simple and short. They definitely could have been fleshed out more to heighten the stakes and sense of mystery... The Recall mechanic could have also been better integreted. Overall, a win for the messy lesbians.
