29 years ago I played this classic for the first time. Every story beat and every puzzle solution is permanently etched into my brain meat. Primordial memories. So I've decided I'll be playing this game every 10 years to test for Alzheimer's. When the Monkey Island memories start to go, I'll know the end is nigh.
The Curse of Monkey Island isn't just a game to me, it's a piece of my childhood. I still remember spending hours getting lost in its world, just spending time in Plunder Island, like it was my own hometown. Even after all these years, the feelings haven't faded. Replaying this game feels like opening an old photo album—full of nostalgia, warmth, and the feeling of being a teenager.
Such a nostalgic game, I remember my grandmother buying me this game when I was 5/6 and i loved it. Picking it up on steam and replaying has been such a throwback to my childhood and that precious time with her now that she has passed. The game holds up even today, if you remember this from your childhood, get it! If you don't, get it!
Laugh out loud funny dialogue and extremely ambitious even by today's standards About 50% of the puzzles are classic point and click nonsense so don't feel bad using a guide. Games back then were made to draw out playtime rather than respecting your time (there weren't as many back then so taking forever on a new game was a feature not an oversight). Full disclosure, I did not grow up with these games, but they have some of the funniest writing I've ever seen a game.
