May 2025
I overall liked the game but was not blown away by it either. I liked the unique radically pixelated art style, the music and the gothic atmosphere. The story was ok but, for me, not really captivating and -especially towards the end- a bit overdramatic. The puzzles were overall ok, but not really thought-provoking or original. Some of them were also rather illogical with far-fetched solutions.

Knocking out horror games on Halloween & this has it all... secret societies, vampires, beautiful muses, crazy geniuses, odd gravediggers, old timey guys, and it was fun to explore! I initially looked at the blurry pixels and thought I wouldn't be into the game as I could barely see it, but it works well enough and allows you to put your own imaginative details on the cast. The music is a definite high point, this classical score adds drama and beauty to every scene. I did a chapter per evening, and look forward to continuing in the part 2.

Admittedly I dropped it before finishing. The music, setting and atmosphere is very nice in this game. I then realised it was Carlos Viola doing the music, the guy who did Blasphemous 2's score. Talented man. I like that this point and click doesn't resort to logic puzzles and is just about exploring, reading and combining items (well, with at least one exception). I stopped 3/4 of the way through the game. One thing that would have helped was if it was voice acted. It is a good game though, done in 4 bite-sized episodes which you can play out of order if you desire.

Can't help but compare it to the Rusty Lake franchise, which I personally prefer. With that said, this game is great too.

I bought the game on a discount, along with Season 2. Plowed through the story-line of Season 1 in about eight hours or so. I was rushing through this game because the story is so good! It reminds me of the old Kings Quest games, just more macabre. Big shout outs to the music and the love put into the audio detail of this game also.
